discuss Show own DN showcase website

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
I was thinking to put together some website for DNs showcase by my own.
Actually I have a bunch of DNs for this purpose itself like DroneDN etc.

What is your solution ? Which platform do you use ? Probably Wordpress ?
Which one ? Can you show us your website ?

thanks for your inputs.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
nobody has his own website for DNs showcase ?
I have seen at least one or two member here on NP with nice solutions. But I cant remember who it was.

Good thinking. Setting up a portfolio site is always a good idea and looks professional.

I am also finalizing my portfolio website. I know a little HTML so I have used a customized template (not WordPress). But there are great options available in WordPress and it makes things easier to manage.

Good luck friend. Keep us posted about your site.

There are some templates available
For example, this one - not mine: http://www.domaister.com/domain/maarket/

People have mentioned others, can't recall the names, but people often sound a bit dissatisfied. I'd be really interested to hear what features people want - this is a regular request here on NP

I have a number of portfolio sites, beyond the one in my sig.

Personally, I prefer the hand-crafted HTML boutique feel, like Treasurl.com, over templates. Though templates work too. Its just the difference between a hand-carved wooden door to a mass produced template-styled metal door. They both work.

Also, I view my portfolio sites as demo-sites that I just happen to use to showcase my domains until the site domain itself sells. So they are the best way to show-off what I think is a good URL nobody would think of.

LucidDomains.com - nice website of our member of NP - is it wordpress ?

That one is awesome. I think portfolio sites that look dated and old school basic HTML do more harm than good. That once looks very professional.

This is a truely awesome non-wordpress website. The best I've ever seen. And I know a thing or two about Domains for Sale websites. It's just a pity about their unrealistic pricing. To each their own.

My domains available site is within my profile, not sure it's allowed to post the link here so I won't. Nothing fancy but does what it needs to do. Show's available domains, make an offer and along with contact options.

I personally think the simpler the better for a domain sales site but JMO...

I try to point my names, half to the site and the other half to parking pages.

This is our storefront, our showroom. We are trying to convince endusers that investing significant money in their internet storefront/showroom is worth it.

If you are contacting people with links in your signature and it looks like you didnt bother to invest in your own brand and image, you probably are degrading the value to the buyer.A big part of sales is psychology.

You can hang the same item up with a a $1,000 price tag on a rack at walmart and at Nieman Marcus.

At Neiman Marcus, it looks like a deal.
At walmart everyone would balk at the price.

Many thanks for the compliments, it is much appreciated. It is a custom designed frontend running off a custom CMS. Alot of work has been put into both.

As for our prices, we believe our domains are in a market that has very little end user activity at the moment. However this will change in the future and our prices may adjust accordingly.

Thanks again

@NameFu - Your website looks awfully cluttered.

Nameinvestors.com has a $10/month solution which I use. Some have criticized paid solutions. I am an accounting/finance professional and have launched some sites on my own but am not a pro web designer and many of the sites I have launched don't have that professional look. As another poster mentioned, if you are showcasing a domain portfolio, you don't want an amateur-looking site.

Hey Stub! You're the first to say that actually. I am working on another portfolio site that is leaner and responsive, so no worries.

I really appreciate your input though! I agree that less can be more sometimes.

Hello!

I'm using a free and useful solution dos DN showcasing, coded and made available by @stub (thanks again to him :)), with a few minor amateur mods of my own. Click my signature to see it. At the footer, there is the link to the source script.

Best regards!

A basic old school HTML page is like the basic printed page in a book. It never really goes out of style.

Keep in mind that domain names are alpha-numeric products, not 'display merchandise' found at Wal-mart or Neiman Marcus, and -being letters and numbers, are not only as 'old school' as it gets... but HTML was specifically designed to communicate alpha-numerics on computers.

Sure, you can use people & product picture magazine layouts to market alpha-numerics, but high fashion does not make it 'more professional'. (Ironically, the 'suit & tie is more professional' line of thinking is actually what's 'old school' in the internet age).

Also, consider the psychology of opening with a cover image of a beautiful woman, only to find-out -after flipping through pages of fancy design fluff, that the (fold-out) product is a word.

Truth is, when folks are looking for a name to put some money-on the 'Racing Form' layout is an appropriate, professional, format.
