Today, I was searching for domains to hand reg. I was randomly searching for names then, I suddenly remembered an article published by marketwatch yesterday about home ownership by genarationz so I thought why not search and to my surprise generationz.com was available to register, I had previously as a novice had registered some seemingly gem of names only to find then to be worth nothing. So I went to the domain appraisal tool on godaddy and searched for previous sales and estimates they were in the five figure range. I went back to search only to find it to be taken. Please advise, It has happened to me previously too, only that I didn't care much.
Thanks

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I ment genarationz.com in the intro instead of generation.com, couldn't edit it so.
You should contact mods before opening second thread with the same topic. They can help to fix mistakes.

The link you are giving is generation-z.com not generationz.com. Bottom line don’t type anything into GoDaddy until after purchase. Also you seem to be mistaken that the name was available.

I wouldn't go accusing companies of running scams before sharing my experience & getting some feedback.

Sometimes it happens, sometimes a domain appears available when its not. You can even add it to the cart, then you'll find out its not.

So as members have advised, used whois for availability.

Good luck

You are too quick with accusations and misleading headings.

GD info => https://uk.godaddy.com/help/what-happens-after-domain-names-expire-6700

Owner could have renewed the name sometime in April, if he/she wanted.

Not a scam IMO. Just a glitch perhaps. BTW I don't remember GD ever "front running" a name I've checked there in the past.

I found a decent name on a different site this morning, then searched on godaddy, it was $14,000 with a renewal of $14,000 per year. I went back to the other site and registered it for a few bucks. What's up with that?

It's happened to me before also. when I check who is afterward it has always been registered before that day. It is just a glitch.
Although it did happen with jointcrypto.com but the person who reg'ed it seconds before me was not GD or an affiliate to my knowledge.

The 2 names I found were unregistered, I checked icann and gwhois both said "this domain has not been registered", yet godaddy was selling them for $14k with a $14k renewal. I was able to reg them somewhere else. I don't understand, is that standard practice? Glitch?

I was about to message about it. Godaddy initially shows that the names are available, but when you click to buy, it would say the domain is registered.

If I had a nickel every time I checked a domain and it read available...
Namecheap may be for you if you feel victimized.

OP missed the fact that owner renewed the name, no scam/front running, just usual business, nothing to do with GD.

It wasn't a closeout, the name never went to expired auction

In your case, do you mind sharing the name? was it GD or not GD domain, because some names (like tucows) in closeout can still be renewed/transferred away.

I go to register an UNREGISTERED domain on GoDaddy, they spit out a price of $14,000 pr year. I cross check the Whois, and it is indeed UNREGISTERED. I registered it at a different registrar for the standard price because it was unregistered. Today. Is that not the very definition of front running?

It's still pending in my account, as soon as it's not, I can provide screenshots of everything.
