It appears the domain industry has been starting to take notice of the .us namespace over the past year, read DnJournal.com .us growth and Namepros with even greater expectations for the year to come.

So I thought it would be a good idea to ask everyone to show us your .us domain names. You can post your favorites or your entire portfolio.

.US CCTLD

Premium General Availability “Tiered Pricing” Program

ICA is strongly opposed to this portion of the proposal, which would reclassify approximately 100,000 currently authorized .US domains as “premium” within the following categories:

  • All three letter domain names (17,576) and all three number domains (1,000), excluding names on the restricted list (i.e. 888.us, 877.us, 866.us, etc.)
  • All nouns under eight letters, excluding names with negative connotations or on the “7 Dirty Words” restricted list
  • All verbs under eight letters, excluding names with negative connotations or on the “7 Dirty Words” restricted list
  • Top 10,000 words in the English language, excluding names with negative connotations or on the “7 Dirty Words” restricted list (price varies)
We take this position notwithstanding the fact that, now that Neustar has identified the categories of domains it would reclassify as premium, sophisticated domain investors could readily seek to acquire both presently registered as well as unregistered .US domains within these categories in anticipation of implementation of the plan and a potential increase in secondary market value. We also recognize that the proposed high/low pricing model is less objectionable than domain reclassification programs we have seen proposed in the past, given that it would not affect current registrants or their renewal or transfer costs; that currently registered domain names identified as premium will incur a premium fee only if they expire, go through the redemption process and become available for re-registration again by new or different customers; and that the premium pricing would typically be a one-time event with annual renewal fees being the same as for non-premium domains.

Heyo,

Thanks to Jeremiah Johnston and and Phil Corwin for their continuing efforts on behalf of long-suffering .US domain holders.

Those that have been supporters since April 2002 know full-well how ineffective Neustar has been at actively promoting the space. Here's hoping that the current efforts finally move the needle so that .US enthusiasts can finally profit (hey, how about just recovering recover reg fees?) from this round of promises.

Hello Scott, What do you mean by the following? (hey, how about just recovering recover reg fees?)

If you have been there since April 2002, hold premium domains with literally no aftermarket sales, due in large part to Neustar's inadequate promotional efforts, you'll know what I mean.

Selling a few .US domains along the way would help in this endeavor.

I agree, if they price premiums fairly xxxx minimum.

In all fairness, it seems to me that their are 2 sides to the coin. Firstly Ica does a wonderful job of protecting domainers rights. But by asking for no premium pricing shows me they are biased in a way towards the domainers/opportunists that benefit from the drops as opposed to those that currently own domain names in .us.

No easy answer. I have single, keyword domains that I would love to see premium priced. Regardless of what Neustar does, the market will decide pricing.

Is the transition to new ownership supposed to occur in July?

Okay, this from March says they expect it to be final next quarter:

http://www.bizjournals.com/washingt...ar-shareholders-approve-2-9b-purchase-by.html
Source
UPDATE:
“On June 12, 2017, NeuStar received written notification from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (“CFIUS”) that it will not take action to prevent the transactions contemplated by the Merger Agreement from being consummated.” (NeuStar Form 8-K, June 13, 2017, SEC Filing.) The CFIUS clearance was a condition to closing the transaction under the terms of the merger agreement, entered on December 14, 2016. (See Agreement and Plan of Merger, NeuStar Form 8-K, Ex-2.1, Section 6.1(f), Dec. 14, 2016, SEC Filing.) Because the parties filed their draft joint voluntary notice with CFIUS on February 3, 2017 (see blog posts below), the 30 day review period and 45 investigation period (see CFIUS overview presentation here) very likely expired prior to June. Because of this timeline, the parties likely withdrew and refiled their notice.
