It appears the domain industry has been starting to take notice of the .us namespace over the past year, read DnJournal.com .us growth and Namepros with even greater expectations for the year to come.

So I thought it would be a good idea to ask everyone to show us your .us domain names. You can post your favorites or your entire portfolio.

Is it possible to get .US domains to show in the registration path at godaddy as an alternative when the .com is not available? I think I have seen premium .US options in the past, but I cannot figure out how to get mine to show up. I have them listed as auctions on godaddy. If you search for the name specifically with the ".us" then it does show up. But it would be nice if it were "suggested."

.US CCTLD

Premium General Availability “Tiered Pricing” Program

ICA is strongly opposed to this portion of the proposal, which would reclassify approximately 100,000 currently authorized .US domains as “premium” within the following categories:

  • All three letter domain names (17,576) and all three number domains (1,000), excluding names on the restricted list (i.e. 888.us, 877.us, 866.us, etc.)
  • All nouns under eight letters, excluding names with negative connotations or on the “7 Dirty Words” restricted list
  • All verbs under eight letters, excluding names with negative connotations or on the “7 Dirty Words” restricted list
  • Top 10,000 words in the English language, excluding names with negative connotations or on the “7 Dirty Words” restricted list (price varies)
We take this position notwithstanding the fact that, now that Neustar has identified the categories of domains it would reclassify as premium, sophisticated domain investors could readily seek to acquire both presently registered as well as unregistered .US domains within these categories in anticipation of implementation of the plan and a potential increase in secondary market value. We also recognize that the proposed high/low pricing model is less objectionable than domain reclassification programs we have seen proposed in the past, given that it would not affect current registrants or their renewal or transfer costs; that currently registered domain names identified as premium will incur a premium fee only if they expire, go through the redemption process and become available for re-registration again by new or different customers; and that the premium pricing would typically be a one-time event with annual renewal fees being the same as for non-premium domains.

Just off the top of my head, such a rule or policy might not pass constitutional muster under the First Amendment (prior restraint/viewpoint discrimination, etc.). Remember, the .US is still the TLD of the United States. Imagine Democrats.us and Republicans.us dropping on the same day, and all registrars being required to have a minimum hand registered price of $1 for Democrats.us and $10,000 for Republicans.us.

Next time will plan ahead to be on webinar, only did the audio by phone, didn't know there was a download required ahead of time, was unable to ask questions.

IDN character support for the nine most popular languages used in US is in the works, and they are looking to adjust privacy to comply with laws in other countries.

i think they are owner and forget to renew, and i only accept offer for 3 word.us $199

How did you figure that out John?

The .US ccTLD has been chronically undermarketed for years. It really should be at the 50 million registrations mark or higher. But that's a different subject.

If you look at the penetration rates of popular ccTLDs like .ch .de .nl (1 domain per 5 inhabitants roughly), then yes .us could be at 50 million regs today had it been as popular.

@ikehook sold 61 .US domains out of 12,000 registered from that 10 cent Unireg deal.

Made $22,143 dollars, another $1,000 in parking income. Minus commission $18,900 total profit.

$1,200 investment (12,000 x 10 cents).

Nice ROI so far, and many more left.
Good luck, I hope they sell to endusers and we get some quality sites up and running.

Thanks brother. I forgot I had it listed at GoDaddy at that price. A bit of history just so others can see and appreciate:

Previous owner was into it for $2K; by the time I was done, I was into it about the sales price (pre-commission) not including time. I can't remember how long ago, but I traded it and a few other names to a family member as I needed extra cash at the time. Their roi to date on just the one sale and after commission is approximately 31%; I paid renewals.

Although I took a hit at the time I sold to family, they got a respectable return; not pie in the sky typical astronomical domainer return, but still pretty nice. I'm happy / they're happy.

Got a couple hundred myself from that and a .88 Namecheap deal, but have only sold a couple and for very meager ($xx) sums (and had mostly single words too)... Seems like others have had better luck. @ikehook are those mostly inbound sales or do you do any outbound for .us?

No outbound sales at all, I don't think it would be worth it. I committed very little time to the whole thing, if they sold they sold. Set a BIN price on afternic, Sedo and the landing page.

I'd set the price between $99 and $399 on all of them. At that price someone that want's it won't give it a second thought. You don't want to undersell the few names that will actually sell. One sale will cover your costs. If you bought 200 for $176 and sell one for $199 you break even, you can gradually lower the BIN price as they get closer to expiring. If they don't sell try different names or try something else, but don't spend too much time on this.

Congrats was it afternic or Inbound
As much as he might like them to be, it's my hunch that these were not in fact Adam's sales.

And to complete my post, here's a domain that somehow I nearly forgot I own:

Liar.us
