Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

Researchers from the Sunnybrook Research Institute, the University of Toronto, and McMaster University were able to isolate and replicate the virus in a lab using samples taken from two Canadian patients.

The lab-grown copies will now be able to help scientists study the pathogen to develop better diagnostic testing, treatments, vaccines, and gain a better understanding of its biology, the team said in a statement.

Main golf buddy (the one I ride with): Went to the clinic early yesterday morning but never made it inside as he was not presenting too high of a temperature. Sent home, without testing (at first I was told by his sister he was tested) as there were only two on hand. He is home with no temp yet coughing continuously and diagnosed with an 'unspecified/unknown upper respiratory virus' and the golf course owners want him back at work at 7am tomorrow morning to open the course.

My other golf buddy: Although he does not have a fever, he has a slight cough...most likely due to his allergies. Last night, while staying at his mothers and step fathers home (both have chronic illnesses) his 72 year old mother suddenly died after having a normal dinner and evening. At this time it looks like they will test tissue samples.

My niece: I just learned she is at home, taken very ill suddenly. She is a speech pathologist and leads a team at a local hospital and does lots of volunteer work and was active there until two days ago. Her husband is top tier plastic surgeon (specializing in facial reconstruction due to illness or vanity) and as of now, he is well and still helping with the overflow of patients at his and other clinics. He now has to consider himself a potential carrier.

I am not going to agree with you on any numerical system, but we may have common ground on rather this virus was man made and purposely released , although the fatality rate is very low considering it is a new virus, if virus was indeed lab made and purposely released, it is destroying the world economy, shutting countries down and causing death, That is initiating world war 3 , Who made it????

It turns out that a group in western Canada had achieved it a couple of weeks ago but did not announce it. The Globe had an article today about both groups. So now two Canadian groups, and one at CDC in the US, have all been able to successfully grow copies for use in testing and experimentation. It is an important early step towards better understanding the virus, and a possible vaccine or treatment.

So sorry to hear all those cases close to you @Mister Funsky. That is so sad about your buddies mothers sudden passing. Thoughts with them and you. Your niece is one of so many medical workers who encounter higher than normal risks through their dedication to their jobs and volunteering. I truly hope she does not have Covid-19, or if she does that she will not be very ill. While obvious exceptions, the vast majority of those under 60 are not ending up seriously ill and are able to fight it off.

That's excellent news Bob, everyone is hard at work to discover the vaccine. Some are saying 4 to 6 weeks until solid results are in.
The grants and government funding is an incentive for these geniuses to work together.
