Now that .APP is rolling out I thought I'd share a little of our position in .APP domains. I'd love to know what others are doing.

We budgeted just shy of $100k for .APP domain registrations. Several we've already acquired and several we've missed. I'll update our pickups as I can without giving away our position. So far I will share that we picked up:

• Wedding.app

Trademark Claim
I do have a domain that we registered that has to pass their trademark claim process... it is very generic, not sure who decided to try to call it a trademark, we shall see.

Our Why
To sum it up, Google is our why. I became a domainer back in 2000, when the domain really mattered in SEO. My hunch is that Google won't be able to resist giving some type of preference to quality .APP domain.

Even a small advantage in the SERs or even the Play App Search results, make generic .APP domains valuable.

I grabbed a few. I passed on teen.app candy.app charity.app and a few real nice domains. Here’s what I got -

Cable
Public
Cartoons
Detroit
Michigan - my home state

I also grabbed the first names of me and family. Eden is my daughters name and I was prompted to agree that there is a TM on file. Same prompt happened with CA...

CA was on my list then I saw the registration/renewal cost(s).....best of luck with it; it’s a good name

Typically, yes. But in this case, you have made a rather embarrassing mistake as the "app" is on the wrong side of the dot. You may ask your registrar if there is any grace-period to return the name.

Unfortunately, the .io extension hasn't been able to catch on. I am currently trading my excess .io for non-tangible, non-government recognized encrypted currencies. I suppose you take what you can get.

pretty sure i looked up all of these too. didn't have the stomach for the high renewals.

my highest budget was for tickets.app (i have a tickets app). I was going to go day 3 EAP (it was $249 renewal) but it got snapped day 2. Same guy took ticket.app I think. After seeing how the release shook out I would've paid the high cost for just that name.

That was quick, at 01:37 I check them and just ended up getting oc.app. Time right now is 01:55 and few more are gone.

Funny story I actually sold a keyword app .com for close to $10k, and it was unregistered in eap, and into ga, but after the transfer it suddenly got registered. It was done via afternic, but buyer was unreachable according to transfer, so I wonder if someone doing the transfer took it. Was taken via google’s register, but if someone doing the transfer saw a big end user given the keyword, it could be an easy $5-$10k, as they gladly paid the ask.

Only reason I didn’t was because it was associated with a $500 renewal, not sure who the buyer was, but just don’t want to get caught up with a portfolio full of premium renewals, nothing beats a $8 renewal.

I'm a little confused here..., you sold a keyword app .com that was unregistered in eap and into ga, but 'was there' an eap and ga for .com domains back in the 80s/90s?? I don't remember one in the 20+ years I've been domaining. Perhaps there is a typo in your post? Or am I not reading it right?

Yes, correct the matching .app was unregistered in eap, and into GA, the domain sold the day before GA, and transfer completed the same day as .app GA, I am wondering if someone on the inside grabbed it. If I knew the buyer was a Fortune 500, I might have gambled on the premium, but without knowing it wasn’t worth it.

From everything I've seen, yes they were all priced at $1,000 renewal, unless there were a few that were priced at $2,000 -- like may be me.app or my.app? I don't know.

I checked about an hour ago and less than 10% of the 676 combos were left.

I think I saw one that was $499 but could be wrong. I looked up 4k & 3d I think those were $999 & $1999 respectively.

I think you probably mis-saw, because even the worst LL.app are priced at ~$1,000 renewal, such as YV.app, etc. (inb4 "YV is actually good...")

Appreciate that! Quite new to the field but have a great marketing background and heavy into the app game. Fell in love with the extension.

Wanted TakeawayApp but its gone in Early Access to Takeaway dot com.
