This is interesting, but the questions I have are...

- Will BrandBucket be paying the seller (original domain owner) in Bitcoin or will BB immediately convert the Bitcoin to USD and pay the seller in USD via Paypal/Payoneer like they do today?

Typically once a sale occurs, there is a 5-10 day lag from the sale email notification to completing the transfer & then the follow-on payment process. It can take 5 days for the transfer process and then another 5 days for the funds to be available for export.

- I understand the buyer side (which is outlined in the above announcement) but how does this play out for the seller on the receiving side?

@Keith DeBoer - please help with clarification or maybe provide a sample case study for clarity.

Thank you.

To the best of my knowledge there is no change on the seller side. The seller receives funds in the same amount and manner as before via PayPal or Payoneer. BB is simply providing more payment options on the customer side. The seller is not effected in any way.

Thanks @Keith DeBoer - appreciate the feedback and prompt response.

Adding options on the buyer side while maintaining stability and continuity on the seller side makes sense.

Looks like they have a new site design. Very clean, and the focus is now on search/browse. No inventory listed on homepage anymore. Using onHover in the main nav for By Category is one thing that doesn't work well IMO.

Well done and good luck with this BB.

The logo for one of my BB names was redesigned. Has this happened to anyone?

What made BB change the logo even though I didn't request a redesign?

Interesting... Is it a higher priced domain? Logo was bad?

Yes, that has happened to me once as well. The original logo wasn't bad at all, so I have no idea why. Maybe someone complained that it violated their logo?

That's unusual. Usually a redesign is only done for a good reason like something was misspelled or it not readable or something like that. Send an email to [email protected] if you want to find out the reason.

Would either of yall mind posting the domain (or logo) that was redesigned?

Many NP'er's/BB'ers have requested a redesign for good reasons, yet, (I think) they are (or in previous years) were seldomly approved.

How often do re-designs happen for reasons other than somebody complaining that it violates their logo?

Mine was claya(.)com. But it recently sold, so I can't link to the logo. Maybe it sold because of the new logo ;)

One possible explanation: a client got in touch with BB and asked for a redesign as a condition for purchase and gave them hints what they expect from it.

I don't think that is what happened in my case. Because the logo was changed long before the domain sold.

After may be better, but I don't think the first one is terrible.

Still, it begs the question, as to why the logo was changed.

It doesn't appear (to me) that somebody would have complained about it violating there logo. Not sure how often this happens, given even if a logo were to violate another's, how likely is it that "another" will even find the similar logo, and subsequently report it?

It would be interesting to see exactly how long it took to sell after the new logo.

eg

4 years? with the old logo = didn't sell.
Less than 6 months with the new logo = sold.

Probably the original logo designer goes through his portfolio of designs he has done for BrandBucket and picks out the names that he thinks have the best possible chance to sell and redesigns the logo if it's not that appealing.

How long = long before ;)

This would imply logo designers have the ability to re-design published logo's they created.

Can any logo designers confirm this?

I'm not sure when the logo was changed, but the domain sold at BB in late December last year.

That could be the explanation, but as @Grilled mentioned, not sure if designers have the right to do that.

Would be interesting to see the stats on how many end users keep the logo after purchasing a domain name on Brandbucket, Brandpa etc.

From what I have observed from my own sales, it is not a lot. I still don't know how big a difference the logos make...

I think the majority of buyers don't even care about the logo. It feels like logos are more filler than anything, to beef up the content of these sites, otherwise it would just be long list after long list. Having the logos provides a more satisfying browsing experience to the consumers and potential end user buyers. How much does having a logo affect the choice to buy a domain name?

The only ones winning in this agreement are the logo designers. The seller and the sites lose money having to pay out to the designers.

I tend to agree, but it is interesting that @Undeveloped now makes it possible for sellers to upload logos. I think they even encourage it and stress that buyers are purchasing a brand more than just a domain.
