Bidding on your own names at NameJet...?

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Once in awhile I see people bidding on their own domains at NJ. I would think it would be frowned upon.

Today's seems more obvious than normal. Or am I missing something here?

Airlinejobs.com owned by Andy Booth at Booth.com and high bidder is BQDNcom (James Booth).

3 bids down we see Boothcom as a bidder.

Same thing with MovieZone.com. Owned by Andy Booth in which he currently appears to be the high bidder.

High Bid: $2,475 USD by boothcom

They actually won their own domain airplanesforsale.com. Im guessing it didnt get as high as they wanted so needed to protect it.

Bidder Amount Date
bqdncom $2,001 7/17/2017 12:23 PM
boothcom $1,950 7/17/2017 12:23 PM

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
If that is the case, this is not good. Now that supposed fraudulent activity has been found, the auctions in question are removed?

Looks like a cover up and if NJ is not involved in the shill bidding, they should leave all auctions up "as is" for record keeping and independent investigation.

Screen cap everything. I just got another response from web.com from another staff member. Things are apparently moving on their end.

I also sent this thread to several major tech blogs.

Oops, I made a typo when naming the above PDFs (it should be "Hecker", not "Heckler"!!).

FACT: Only a stupid person would think that NameJet was not aware of this crap happening.

It appears that these questions of unnatural bidding have been an issue for many years. This didn't just start. What a shame.

21 pages later....

Obvious shill bidding. 100% unethical and against the TOS of Namejet anyway.

I will say that the parent company of NJ - Enom had virtually no support when I was active with them. I won a $6.95 reseller account on Ebay in 2002...All things were great, EXCEPT, the reseller above me never answered a single phone call or email EVER. Was it a fake account? Their support over the phone was nonexistent - it nearly always went to voicemail and like the email support/query form everyone would redirect me to the the non-existent reseller. There were glitches and issues that needed resolving yet NO ONE CARED or was accountable. Very frustrating.

Perhaps Tucows will clean things up when the buyout is complete?

What is the industry to do about the obvious weaseling happening at NJ?

Who is there to hold Namejet accountable? As it stands - if their rep keeps responding here - they will have a negative like total within a few days . . .

NameJet‏ @namejet
We are aware of the allegations of shill bidding and are currently investigating. To be clear, this not tolerated on our platform. ^JT

What's missing is....Any member of NameJet found to be involved in shill bidding or unnatural bidding will be banned immediately.

Enom is there enough to delete all your domains if they suspect anything at all. I had it happen to me. I had to go through all kinds of scrutiny to prove who I am. And still, they did nothing to recover of my domains that they had cancelled. I don't care too much for Enom. I know how to reach their security department though. :)

Not tolerated = only happened at least 1200 documented times so far....

My wife does not tolerate gluten, but eats food with it. I guess, NJ is the same way...

This scandal is auction wide on multiple platforms scary!!

And they probably immediately got their next door neighbor to reregister as a phony proxy. This is impossible to stop. Faceless digital platforms can always be exploited since the question of invisible phantom bidders, live brother-in-law bidders, and bots will never go away. It sucks, its the world we live in.

I am surprised that this situation is startling, if any of you went to a bunch of live auctions you would see for yourself the side deals and crap that goes on. Frequently, the "dealers" make side agreements among themselves. It's a cartel of money and market makers as to who would bid on what item, leaving the bids lower to make sure everyone got a good deal. This is old news. Like Politicians and Lobbyists. Auction houses even the famous ones themselves have lots of side deals too. Its very, very corrupt.

NameJet has spoken to Andrew.

"I spoke with NameJet GM Jonathan Tenenbaum this afternoon, and he reiterated that they are continuing to look into all of the allegations. He said the company takes the allegations seriously and is taking the time to fully investigate them. It will take action (both with individual bidders and to improve the platform) based on what it finds."

P.S. ShillJet.com is available for hand reg. I suspect this will be a term used in the future to describe NJ if their management continues to condone this type of behavior through their actions (or inaction in their case)

ShillJet.com no longer available for hand reg. Haha - I love this community!

Me and my brother we go to a topless bar and get deals done over drinks and table dances, that is what brother's do. So James and Andy Booth bottom line are shill bidding, doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

So with that being said, James and Andy Booth are full of BS and should be kicked out of Namejet for good. When is the domain industry going to expose this shit going on!!!

Interestingly are all domains which are associated with the user "HKDN" and the email address "[email protected]", registered with ENOM or NETWORK SOLUTIONS (alias ENOM) and COLUMBIANAMES.COM (alias NETWORK SOLUTIONS alias ENOM). Could also be just coincidence...

That's a good one, has far reaching possibilities far beyond domain shills :wtf:
