Escrow/com Is Now Asking For Photos of Personal Documents.

I just logged in to Escrow/com and they are now asking for extensive verification including Photos or scans of ID's and other personal and business documents to be stored on their servers.

I have used them for years for all my transactions.

With all the hacks of servers happening around the world and security breaches exposing us to identity theft I have refused to give photos of my ID's and other documents to companies who request it.

I will not do business with Flippa for this reason.

I recently had my account frozen at a registrar that asked me for this and I refused.

Will you give photos of your personal ID's, bank records, etc to Escrow/com or will you use another service?

Personally, I think I am going to take my business somewhere else.

I am really disappointed about this after all these years.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I started this thread on Jan, 4 and the results seem to be overwhelmingly in favor of using another escrow company instead of Escrow.com.

Will You Give Escrow/com Photos of Your ID's And Other Docs?

Yes.................. 49 votes

If we add together the NO votes and the NOT SURE votes, which lean more towards a NO vote than a yes vote, we have a majority of NP members, who voted, saying they will be using a different escrow service from now on.

No.................... 101 votes
Not Sure.......... 29 votes

How does Not sure YET lean into a no vote? It does nothing of the kind.

I was a Not sure voter and changed it to Yes a few days ago and I supplied them with the info. Its no big deal.

I said "lean", not "is".

If you were sure at the time you voted, you would have voted yes without hesitation.

So, voting "NOT SURE" shows uncertainty or doubt about complying with the new verifications.

In my opinion, this hesitation or doubt leans very slightly towards a "NO" vote.

So this puts it closer to "NO" than "YES".

In any case, looking at the overall votes, and excluding the "NOT SURE" votes, the "NO" votes out number the "YES" votes by 2 to 1.

Just my opinion.

I don't want this to become a big debate that derails this thread.

You are entitled to your opinion and you obviously see it differently.

That's cool. :xf.smile:

Let's not turn this into a big debate, it is not that important. :depressed:

Ok guys your fears are becoming a reality now, those who said the buyers would be ok with this, well not so fast...

--->

We are on the brink of pulling away from this transaction. Since this was
part of your agreement to go through Escrow. com, I am reaching out to you
before we cancel this deal.

We have provided a US issue global entry card and the copy of the business
documents and we are still getting declined and we are starting to feel
that this is becoming a scam more than a legal transaction.

Please get this resolved today.
----------

This situation was resolved eventually, but the buyer was frustrated, and very angry.

I don't know what the solution is, but this affects us all, big or small.

The reason I started this thread is to bring things like this to light.

Escrow/com needs to dial back this ID thing fast or it will lose all its domain name business.

I have already switched to other services and I can't see coming back at this point.

It is a shame really, because they were my go to service for a very long time and frankly I hate to leave.

Started a high dollar deal at Escrow a few days ago, buyer signed up, submitted what he needed to, paid in full through bank wire... all going smooth so far..

(buyer is from Turkey)

I guess it is hit or miss with this new verification thing.

Good for you.

You are lucky everything went OK.

The next guy might not be so lucky.

I am not willing to take that chance and lose a sale because of it, when there are other alternatives.

I hear ya. But most other alternatives will eventually force verify the same way, probably.

Well I voted yes. We had little choice the funds were in their hands and the domain transferred by the time we got the email. We've had an account with them since 2003 and multiple transactions. Worse now our payment seems to have disappeared and no response to our emails.

You are probably right about that, but for right now I will use the services that don't.

Security issues aside, it is hard enough to complete a sale without having Escrow/com mess it up for you by pressuring your buyer to jump through hoops to buy a name.

Well I just pushed my first deal through escrow with the new change, and this buyer had no issue with it... so maybe it's not that devastating.

To update the thread:

Just completed an incredibly messy and difficult sale and used EPIK escrow for the first time as I won't trust Escrow.com with my details re hacking issues, never mind buyers not going to bother sending in verification.

Anyway, EPIK were absolutely fantastic from start to finish including working tirelessly on weekends. I can't tell you how many things went wrong here from the buyers end but EPIK dealt with it all admirably. They sent funds to my Paypal at the speed of light on instruction to do so yesterday.

Makes moving on from escrow.com a true pleasure and thrilled I did so. Wonderful service!

Thanks for posting that.

It is great to see other alternatives working so well.

Glad to hear Epik worked so good.

Here's to many more sales!! (y)

How long does it take for epik escrow to setup the transaction? It's going on 24 hours after I submitted the request and still no response.

For Epik, I believe the domain has to be at Epik, and the buyer must accept it at Epik?

For me Sedo escrow was always primary regarding endusers... and exactly Escrow.com was just as alternative (for bulk transactions to another domainers)...

No it doesn't. You just pay a slightly higher escrow commission if it isn't as if the domain is at EPIK escrow is free.

Fee is like 1.5% for domains at other registrars.

One big issue I have with Sedo Escrow, is you give your buyer access to a shopping mall, to browse while they wait. They could find a similar domain priced cheaper, and use it against you, or go on a whole different path. This is why I always wanted to keep sedo escrow at bay. For most transactions, not an issue, but there are certain buyers who are always on the fence whom you have to close quickly.

Many buyers are building off an idea, or a business they are entering, they really have little knowledge of the domain space, and just want to secure a domain using their credit card.

I only had the unpaid auctions at Sedo...
But never had any disappeared buyers when using their Escrow...

No, it is not mandatory.

I recently had a sale and I wanted to use Epik's escrow but the domain was still in the sixty day lock.

I contacted Epik because the instructions on the escrow form page said you needed the auth code.

The auth code would not work in this case because of the lock, and I wanted to do a push.

They said that they could do it, but it was not the way they usually do it, but they would need more info about me and the seller.

So using the auth code seems to be more or less required when using Epik's escrow.

Just some info I thought would be useful to someone. :xf.smile:

Oh, and the domain was not registered at Epik.

Enduser-sales within 60 days - are very rare...
So I don't think that it is a big problem...
