Virtual Reality Domains (VR)

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Im betting big bucks on VR domains have a great future and with the big boys buying up VR companies, mainstream is a stones throw away.....

Lots of VR+keyword.com taken years ago and I noticed this sale a week or so back -

VRTechnology.com $3688

This was a steel and I can soon see everything from VRPoker / VRCasinos / VRShopping / VRBrowsing / VRTours / VRWorlds / etc etc....having a high price tag even now at the start of VR hitting mainstream...

I have just paid $x,xxx for a name but will not be showcasing as the domain is in escrow at present....

Feel free to showcase your VR domains If you like...

Cheers

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Just a word of warning to anyone registering .de domains, you need to have a German contact on the WhoIs information otherwise the domains can be cancelled by the German registry Denic.

Also some of the other European extensions have their own restrictions. Definitely check the T's & C's before you spend $$$.

Now you tell us... :D

Doh!! Was just denied VRmessages.com which I bought on Godaddy auctions for $12, original owner decided to get it back afterall. LOL, sucks to have to pay that big fee but I think whoever owns the domain will be happy in the end.

Good luck to you with it :) whoever you are, I know you're reading this thread hehe.

Why is there a gap?
GAP? VR names are no different than any other. It is all about MARKETING VALUE.
The value is to the end user for traffic manipulation. Otherwise any name would do.
We had the same conversations when .mobi, .us, .me, .tv, .co and others were new.
Now we have hundreds of them. So if you want to see the future for them, look at the past.
VR & CHIPs may have saved many a registrar from going belly-up lately from just "NEW" investors.

Traffic is something many will pay dearly for. "Google makes their primary living from that fact".

Want value for those new TLD's, then show traffic or show why there is potential for it without leaking any of it to someone else in the niche. i.e. buyitnow.tv or buyitnowtv.com ... odds are better to have both but which one do you think will get the most natural traffic.
You can't do well betting the long shot horse (100:1) when the payout is worse than the favorite (<3:1)

When Google bought ALPHABET.xyz, it really was a matter of "no choice" if they wanted the keyword.
and .xyz enhances the keyword somewhat compared to .me, tv, club , wine or anything else except .biz.
Which is why we say "only the strongest keywords".
Eventually a very strong keyword will run out of room. Just look at the 2L "VR".anything -Supply / Demand.

has anyone thought of registering Girl names + VR? I remember having a long conversation with a GD salesperson just shooting the breeze with him. he gave me a heads up on Girls name. for a certain "niche" that I can't talk about here. he told me about some guy who registered Jenny.com for his daughter to maybe create a website for his daughter just to post pictures up and whatever. of course the daughter grew up and the website was no longer needed. he decided to sell the domain. little did he know the market for such names. from what the GD person told me it sold for big bucks in a private sale? then he told me to check girl names and see if I could find some available. he told me to expect not finding any. and he was right.

so I figure. this "new tech" will eventually used by girls to showcase their views or talents or whatever. and it makes sense they will want the most basic domain just their first name and VR.

I'm gonna lie. I've checked it out myself and alot of Top names are taken when I say TOP I mean names that have high keyword monthly searches. it's amazing I missed this one. anyone else register girl names?

most female stars are on reality shows anyway so is it hard to believe that say Kim Kardashian would wanna create a

KimVR.com? (Taken by the way)

or Paris Hilton
ParisVR.com?

or Amber Rose?

AmberVR.com? (taken) ( see what I mean?)

also on another note I doubt guy names would be investment grade but who knows? what do you think?

I wanted to mention this here because I think it has potential.

I can't register all the girls names out there. so I'll leave the rest to you guys. I only chose the ones with high monthly searches. do yourself a favor before you reg. make sure the girl names with VR has nothing lower than 100K monthly searches unless it's a pretty girl name. you know. the kinda name that guys would visit.

Good luck!

might be late to the party on this mention by has anyone checked out VRWine.com? very nice website and it's not about Virtual Reality.

are they just capitalizing on the popularity of VR these days or does VR actually stand for something? tried to check it and the site doesn't mention anything.

I think my VRLiquor.com would be so much better than just VRWine.com just based on their selection on the site.lol but that's just me. they don't just sell wine.;)

"VR" can stand for multiple things...

Just like MD can mean Mobile Device, as well as Medical Doctor, as well as Matt Damon.

In the case of VRWine.com, it stands for "Vin Room" (See: http://www.vinroom.com/).

The term "VR" was already popular before Virtual Reality, thanks to: Vacation Rentals, Vintage Racing, Vocational Rehab, Vancouver Region, Very Rare, etc.

No one will benefit from adding "VR" to a product/service (except us domainers). lol. :P

I see a trend on this thread and its not a good one.

There seems to be very little imagination being used in creating domains that major end users in the Vr/AR/360 industry would want to use from what I can determine from many of the postings.

Where are the brandable styled domains that are huge in the trendy, genvr crowd?

Not a lot of people on here are spending time using their imagination imo

If u were an ad agency or coo of a major vr corp looking for a BRANDing style domain they will want just that a brandable and they will pay dearly for it too if decent

too many of u r focusing on keyword style.

I certainly would want something like oculus vreal or vive etc, etc instead of vr(keyword).com if I was branding my vr related company

unless I was of course trying to capture any leakage by owning the keyword dot com as well and want the keyword for that scenario

a ton of new startups will need CREATIVE brandable type domains for this industry that is cool, trendy, ez to spell and recognize

stop spending your $$$ on keyword style imo, smoke a doob or have a few pints and get your imagination working and stop regging anything that comes to your mind because its available

ive got a list of 100+ brandable styles that are well researched and finding more daily so hand regs r still out there.

just saying but what do I know.......

yes.. definitely... you observe well the trends and patterns! cause at this stage of the game... pretty mcuh all u have left is yoru imagination to try come up with some neat sounding brandables.. take your chances in this way... because vr+keyword domains worth regging are nearly all gone. regging vr+keyword was super fun when first of them got regged back in 1995-2000 (vrgames.com etc come to mind).. then it cotninued to be fun for many years.. but only for those who knew how to have fun... and then someone started this thread.. and when on page#1 of it, it was still good fun regging vr+keyword.. and then it just became less and less fun. cause there was no more fun vr+kw stuff left to reg at some point. cause how can you have fun regging vr domains when there is no more fun vr domains left to reg? impossible! so I hope most of people here managed still to have some fun regging vr+kw domains. and one day they'll have fun getting paid for them too ;)

fun fun fun!
good luck to your brandables and all vr domainers of planet earth! :)

Hand regged:

VrRentalCar(s)
RentalCar(S)VR
CarRentalVR
VrCarRental
RentacarVR
HousesForRentVR
VrHousesForRent
ApartmentsForRentVR
VrHousesForSale
HousesForSaleVR

The reason I picked these up is that they have a lot of exact match searches (minus the Vr part).

Your observations are very good ones. Let me shed some more light on the subject.

Brandables are unpredictable for many reasons. But many a company will not want a pure generic name but one that they can "PROTECT". That being a trademark. A trademarked name can stop anyone from using a similar name and SEO so easily to steal your traffic.
So that is one reason why you see names with "ODD" spellings and the like.
Things like VRcarz for a not so great example, but you get the idea. One would think they did that out of desperation and sometimes is the case but more often it is to get a 'TM'able name that can be protected providing advantages in their niche.

But it's the number crunchers in the marketing dept's that do all that figuring out the many angles for the desired effects. Many a 'small' company will not have marketing dept, Just one guy that likes the sound of it without knowing the advantage of other names. And that is where you need to be able to SELL the advantage of your name. So know your stuff !

But still, the brandable scene normally comes early and the generic category names later.
They are very unpredictable where as playing keyword category is much more predictable if you are good at predicting the most in demand keywords and get them before anyone else does. There are only so many LIKELY names for a VR company and after those you are poking around in the dark or just buying to many for a few hits.
Also many BRANDS 'may' not contain the keyword VR or Virtual even though it's highly likely they will.
I always buy some brandables for any niche, but never more than 20.
More luck than skill if you did not get in early enough for the obvious ones.

VRD your trademark issue is something I thought of too and u r spot on for sure

Originality is key especially in a huge growth niche like vr/ar/360

stand out from crowd is key even tho its spelled a bit off from actual word that's what branding is, be different but the same, evolutionize don't revolutionize

I look at greek mythology, latin terms etc as well to get inspiration

I also just spend a lot of time inputting all kinds of variations of words to see what comes out.

its a lot of fun and who knows maybe a major corp one day will buy something

oh yea don't give it away! price high as u can cause these end users are well funded!

im approaching end users more now in the industry while its such a huge niche to sell into
