After google decision is it worth investing in xyz extension? Will it's value increase?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Its not just about google, its about the meaning of xyz. IMO.

Exactly, that is the point. It has no meaning and sounds terrible for marketing purposes.
Say it aloud. Pharma.xyz, sounds weird but good luck.

.xyz has 1,119,751 domain registered. too late to invest in .xyz.

But only 880,000 in the zone file. The rest are pending delete names. Soon you'll be able to pick lots of drops.

Where would be the best place to list my one .xyz (developing)
I been looking at flippa, but have never used it.

The only action I see on .xyz domains is on Namejet. But it looks kinda complicated to list names there.

I personally can't remember the last time I typed in a .com a .net etc... most all searches are done with search engine anyway, and xyz "will" rank so whats the problem? XYZ is one of the only extensions that literally means everything and nothing at the same time, so for me is the perfect extension. Also those great XYZ names are getting taken every day. I've also bought XYZ names and put on sedo with in 1 day or 2 some of those names have gotten around around 1000 searches each. That to me tells me that the extension is being recognized or that domainers are on to something. my 2 cents.

If you rely on SEO alone, the domain name is not that important. But for branding, it becomes absolutely critical. Especially if you are going to advertise it.

Then it's just another extension, nothing special. .ooo means nothing either, nor .desi or .onl.
Since when meaningless domains are the future ?

Why couldn't you brand a company with xyz extension? I think this is the most common gripe that .com purists are talking about. In truth it will bring competition and lower the value of a .com of the same wording and thats what people hate. I have a ton of .coms and other extensions so im not biased just to any extension. But change is coming, its inevitable.

I did say "one of" the only extensions. And actually the word "desi" has meaning to India/Pakistan etc.
I do think .ooo is a nice extension. Though it reminds me of Halloween or something but it is easy to type and remember. However I still will repeat that XYZ does mean anything and thats why its my new go to extension.

I'm fairly new to domain trading, and so don't have an opinion either way based on experience.
I can see a few good opposing arguments here.

same thing happened when they grabbed G.co (and Twitter got no_url_shorteners and Amazon got A.co)and everyone said .CO will be the next big thing and all big companies will follow Google blah blah, it doesnt happen and wont ever happen

My immediate thought was what you said won't happen. Like when Facebook started doing business listings. Every major business around the world started having a FB page, and even TV ads don't say "come to our huge corporate website" they say "come to our FB page". A site not even owned by them.

So there is no way to tell if this is going to go nowhere, explode then die out, or just explode.
It could go either way, and we only have speculation at the moment. If a few large corporate companies start buying and using XYZ, along with Facebook and Google, this could spark a chain reaction. even if it's only temporary, the sales potential will be to businesses jumping on the same bandwagon as their superiors, other large coprs, and of course domainers thinking they can resell higher.

The only way xyz is not going to be worth having, even a handful, is if nothing more than Google has abc.xyz, and half the world's domainers wrongly register millions (as they have now).
Again, even the fact domainers are chomping at the bit can create a market to sell them. Of course there is a limit there as domainers can only sell to each other so much, then it dies out, but there is a period when this can happen.

My summary is that it's worth having a few xyz domains, as they're cheap. But I doubt it'll go like .com where even two words can fetch a lot of money. The big money in xyz will likely always be premium (one popular word, NNN, etc).

Even with all the good arguments here, only time will tell, and stranger things have happened.

I regged a few xyz, just for the hell of it.
betsonline.xyz
redhot.xyz
housesales.xyz
hotbargains.xyz
printercartridges.xyz (hehe, why not)
bffl.xyz

Suppose it is like you say - which is the future ?

1 ) .com prices rise --- What is the limit ?

2 ) ten years later : They are only available : 15 characters domain for other new business.

The opposite.

Why .xyz can not face .com, writing speed, trends, what ?

about writing speed : .xyz It is even more comfortable writing vs .com,... try

So.... the registry owns the .COM and forward it to their website of the product that they are trying to peddle?
Why would this be news or something that is not expected.

The better question would be.... WHY does the registry own a .COM at all?
I thought they were going ALL IN on .XYZ.

Not trying to be a pessimist but something strikes me as off here.

Cheers

Well, I think is good signal they redirect to xyz.xyz, a lll.com is not a cheap thing, so investing in this .com to rediect to a .xyz is another proof of commitment to the project. IMO

No tinfoil hat needed here.

There is an article at "TheDomains" (.XYZ's Deniel Negari is so done with .com he put his own last name up for sale: Negari.com)
There is also the article at "Domainnamewire" that state (...why he’s selling his .com’s and his plans for other new top level domain names)

The point is that since the CEO of XYZ is "done with .COMs"... and supposedly put all of his .COMs up for up for auction.

Why does he still own XYZ.com?

He is the one that came out and directly stated that he no longer will use .COM, yet... he still retains at least one .COM.
Could it be that he realizes that he NEEDS the .COM because of traffic?
If he sold the .COM version of his companies name, then maybe he realizes that he would be missing out on (what I would guess is the) larger amount of type in traffic then what his .XYZ can provide?

Lets be real here, so far .XYZ is all fluff with no real substance.
Deniel Negari seems to not have been able to get selling off all of his .COM domains correctly like he stated.

The fact that the company is redirecting their .COM (for type in traffic) to their .XYZ is not news and to be honest, is pretty much expected. Any business would do the same thing but I am just disappointed that no one has called his bluff on selling all of his .COMs.

It would be fun to watch him back peddle on that comment.

Cheers

Well he did say his dotcoms, not xyzs ! (which is only that one I'd imagine)

I kind of liked when Negari forwarded all traffic from Com.com to Gen.xyz (not anymore).

I wonder how much he paid for leasing that domain?!
