It seems .PRO is slowly coming out of the cage with cheaper reg prices than they were a year ago and major registrars like netsol taking notice of the extension and promoting it. B-)

Here are some that I picked up in last couple of days:

Alexandria.pro

Anchorage.pro

Arlington.pro

Belfast.pro

Birmingham.pro

Budapest.pro

Durham.pro

Fairfax.pro

Italian.pro

Lisbon.pro

Fire away with your regs after the relaunch on September 8th, 2008.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
So what exactly is the point of sitting around on the .pro board and bashing the extension? Is there some extension out there that you think is better that we should be dropping our .pros for and trading into then by all means let it out.

Otherwise, let us revel a little in the fact that GoDaddy is promoting the auctions and the other good things going on in with the extension and everyone enjoy the new year!

A certified professional (.pro) is still a better bet than an unknown hiding behind whois privacy (.com).

And while it is 'self certified', registry.pro could always verify your credentials if someone files a complaint, unlike with Verisign, who're liable to point you to the courts or wipo at best.

I agree it is stupid to invest in something under any sort of cloud, smart investing is about mitigating risk.

You are both misstating facts (.pro does not equal certified professional) AND comparing apples (.PROs) and oranges (.COMs with privacy). This is flawed logic. ((:gl:)) IMO.

From the Enirca dotPRO page:

"November, 2011 Alert .Pro Registrants are no longer required to provide license information at the time of registration. Instead, you will be asked to indicate your profession. If selected for an audit, you will be asked to provide these details to self-certify your license credentials. A business license is acceptable."

A business license is acceptable.

Exactly. As are dummy texts unless they want the domain back later.

from what I understand they do conduct sample tests periodically and weed out people who don't conform to them.

None of you are going to convince me that you're here with good intentions. And please don't tell me that you're trying to save a Newby from the evil PRO people. Some are even going to want to tell me it's because you are trying to save us from the misery of the inevitable PRO failure. Well bless your hearts, ain't you sweet, but we're all "full growed" and can take a whoopin' if we have to.

So does anyone have anything genuine to say? Tell me what your motives were in your past few posts. Check your motives, then post.

I just noticed that you can still grab your .PROs for only $2.99 at Encirca.pro.

See the attached PDF list of 1,300 available dictionary dotPRO domains. Some nice ones here! Btw, MicroGuy, as I see it, it's all about the marketing. If dotCO can market a ccTLD for Colombia and generate the dollars and success we've seen over the past year, with the right marketing strategy and dollars, dotPRO has the potential to do just as well.

The question is whether the registry is willing to make the necessary commitment to make it happen. All other issues aside, dotPRO, in and of itself, probably represents one of the best gTLD extensions out there. It just has no domainer support or exposure. All of this can be overcome with a well executed marketing campaign that markets directly to end users.

Google search these two phrases, together, to see my thoughts on the issue:

"Name Talent" "Domainer Hubris"

Happy Holidays,

In all seriousness, the .PRO registry could use a couple of people like you to get things straightened out.

Unfortunately, as another astute member commented, it appears that the registry is on complete auto-pilot at this time. They probably also are struggling with (and torn between) fully opening the extension to all while maintaining the illusion of registration-wide accreditation. IMO.

WordWalker, Excellent post. I appreciate your lists and bought 3 of em.
Love your website by the way as it has really great information. I'll make sure to add it to the facts.pro site as it is a good reference.

Available 4 letter dotPRO dictionary domains with Google [exact] match monthly search stats.

There may be other 4 letter available dotPRO domains, but I think these cover most standard dictionary entries. Make sure you confirm stats, and do your due diligence.

Good Luck In The New Year!

WordWalker, you're a good man. Thanks for sharing the list. Couldn't get all the ones that looked good to me, but again got a few. Chop.Pro seemed catchy.

I've noticed on Encirca's dropped list that there is a concentration of .pro domains being registered right now 4 to 6 letters long. Makes sense that people are going after the short phrases.

Guess it makes sense that .pro registrations are picking up with the lowered registry fees.

If you have Pros at EnCirca you might want to check your Admin contact. After GoDaddy repeatedly rejected my auctions I found that EnCirca had my contact email set to one of their old Privacy addresses. It was a random looking 30 - 35 character string. Now I wonder if any customers have tried to contact me through Whois only to find all of my Pros privately listed.

I'm very unhappy with one of my favorite registrars.

Encirca was THE registrar for .pro, but they are not innovating at all from some years ago.

Browsing their site is like a time travel and they don't take care of their best customers by setting different prices and support ties.

I have tried to tell that to Heather (she always replies all mails), but it seems that suggestions are not welcome there...

Does anyone know where I can do bulk Whois searches on Pros ??

The good old whois command is the fastest and best. A simple bash script can help you with bulk requests.

I added the following function to my .bashrc:

wp() {
whois $1.pro
}

The I don't even have to write the .pro extension for whois requests.

Thanks Jurgen Wolf but the link I used led me to a bulk Registration Search page instead of a bulk Whois Search page. Don't sweat it. And thanks for the effort.

Hi Mr. Kuli. I'm afraid that it would take me at least half a day to learn how to do all of that. I have just a tad of catching up to do. But thanks much for your time. I do appreciate it !!

Regards
Charles
