Hi everyone! The 3D market appears to be exploding! Record takes at the box office by movies such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland and the announcement this week of the new 3D TV which is set to hit markets shortly have helped buoy interest in 3D multimedia platforms. Even the major American television network NBC has jumped in and will be broadcasting the NCAA Final Four basketball games in 3D!

A direct beneficiary from this renewed interest and greatly improved 3D technology is the domain business. Some of you had foresight many years ago and reg'd great names early on. Others (myself included) have only become aquainted with 3D domaining more recently, but see the huge potential this market has opened up for domainers.

Let this be the place for you to show off your 3D domain names. Ask for opinions, marketing strategies or even an appraisal or guesstimation of value. Also, feel free to post any relevant news releases/articles related to the 3D industry.

I will start the thread off with a few of my own reg's..

3DHighDefinitionTV.com (also have plural)
3DHomeEntertainment.co.uk
3DHometheaters.org
3DStreamingMovie.com
3DVancouver.com
3DWhistler.com

Saucey. ;)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Ok, i think some of my 3d's are stunningly startling, but you learned reggers of all things 3d would probably throw them in the mediocre basket. This means my thinking is not quite in the right direction.

So, i have just regged these unbelievably fantastic names, and would welcome your thoughts on them and where my thinking is up the duff.

all coms
3dhiro...there is an existing 3d-hiro website with 3d thingies on it
computergenerated3d...seems like a lot of 3d stuff will be
3dpocketcam...because these do exist
3dtats...i have an existing tattoo site already and i may be able to use this one. The full word has long gone.

so, gentlemen, your thoughts please!! oops..ladies too, of course

Thanks

Thanks Brad

Selling these 3D domains has generated a extra $11k since January.

It's all good..will donate some cash to a children's charity :tu:

Identified a niche, bought smart before the insane rush to reg anything remotely 3D.

Sold smart, made the $'s.No doubt retained a few goodies. One of the very few I would guess.

A classic lesson for those who want to learn- I doubt that very few will though. :gl:

Take out the big .co.uk sale at sedo and you have done better than the 20 or so 3D domains sold at auction this year which I estimate at about $9k.
Maybe you should start a selling service :lala:

Well Done and the best of luck with your other names.

I sell roughly 8 domains a day not all " 3d domains " ..I mainly seek and purchase short Generic words " .com only "

This 3D niche..I saw had potential and invested on reg fee domains...I've had no issues selling them in the high $xxx to low $x,xxx

Just like Brad said it's all about experience.. quite surprised none of the experienced domainers saw what I saw... easy money.

Today I flipped another 3d domain .com $2,500
will give the domain once the buyer gives me the ok to do so.

I emailed this buyer..and nailed the sale :) I still get a buzz when I sell a domain..

Today donated $1k to gosh.org.....so I do give back :tu:

Good luck all

My latest reg is Designing3d.com

I think it fits well with the whole 3d Web design concept...

I also think that the real money with these 3d domains will be with development (as all domains).. But with 3d, it's even more important to develop, as the traffic figures I have seen for almost all 3d domains has been less than stellar...There doesn't seem to be too much type in action for most undeveloped 3d domains...

Congrats on all your sales!! And its cool to care, so BIG KUDOS for giving back!

My focus has been on dev. But your sales rate is very impressive. So much so that for the first time in years I actually put a couple domains on the market. Though my method is very passive... which is fine as my thinking is to list'em until I get around to developing them.

If they sell cool, if not -cool, as I know I will likely make more than a few grand from most of the names I reg, over the life of the domain.

of course well done to you d-k , the thing is the naysayers will continue to find some reason to degrade 3d names although you have demonstrated a good market for them and good prices , i think had you you listed the above domain in the appraisals section ALL appraisers would have said reg fee

There is no doubt the person that purchased this name has development plains for it

Congrats Dave, another nice sale

3dunderground $2,500

I can promise you most people would have said drop this name, it proves what experience and hard work can do.

A bit off topic..
From Tuesday, I will be away for 6 weeks on Safari in Botswana/Namibia with my wife/kids and then going home to take my sons to a couple of FIFA world cup games in Durban, so keep up the good work everyone

I just got this enquiry in my inbox, very cruel lol

The following form was submitted at WhyPark.com concerning the sale of your domain
3DMovie.net
Name: James Cameron
Email: [email protected]
I want this name, I am willing to pay whatever your asking price is to get this domain.

About a month ago I tried to reg 3Dunderground.com, but it was taken. My dev idea was for the "underground" scene, from taggers to indie media with the focus being a 3D Underground Film Festival. The word "underground" as become an eternal brand for the 'coming of age' demographic.

Another bit off topic. Just noticed you are in Perth. Something in common. My great great grandfather (Admiral James Stirling) was the founder of Perth (so i am led to believe). I live about 3 hours north of Brisbane. I lived in South Africa for 14 years mainly in Cape Town but a couple of years in Joburg and 2 years in the British South African Police in Harare. Been through Botswana, a fascinating area. It will be a great holiday for you and family.

Lol I have 3d(icons)/ dot com :P

Nice name.
When 3d computers hit the shelves later this year, it will open up a whole new interest in 3d graphics :imho:

I don't have one of these " ipad " thingies, but I think you can create your own shortcut icons on them, maybe send them to your ipod and iphone as well ? Not being a techie I am not sure about all this but I do believe things will change very quickly with the new interest in 3d technologies.

The rapid and massive roll-out of 3DTV continues with a major announcement from Cisco and NumeriCable of France:

Numericable Builds True High-Definition 3-D Video-on-Demand Platform with Cisco

"Numericable will evolve its network into a powerful medianet – an all-Internet Protocol network optimized for rich media – which will allow the company to deploy a new HD 3-D VOD experience that surpasses any other 3-D service available today."

Here in the States Imagine Communications will be making a similar announcement on May 10th:
Imagine Communications Unveils 3D and TV Anywhere Video Processing Solutions at The Cable Show 2010

Both developments are fantastic, but a Cisco powered online 3D network would be an incredible tipping point for the mass adoption of 3D. Consumers have already shown a willingness to pay a premium for 3D so a VOD network makes *sense*.
