Local domain name networking events and meetups are an excellent way to make new contacts and friends within the industry, whilst enjoying the opportunity to talk about business with like-minded professionals. This week in the calendar of domain name industry events was DNHouston, which took place at the Crush Wine Bar in Woodlands, Texas.
Attendees of the first ever DNHouston meetup enjoyed food, drinks, and great conversation on arrival before attention turned toward the event's speakers. @Eric Lyon, NamePros' administrator, was one of the speakers. Eric spoke briefly about NamePros and answered questions that some of the attendees had about the industry's largest domain name community.
Topics such as auctions, NamePros chat, and future features of NamePros were discussed by the group, with Eric also revealing interesting statistics about NamePros' user base.
Kevin Kopas from Public Interest Registry, the operator of .org, .ngo, and .ong domain names, then spoke about popular domain investments today, with some focus on the Chinese domain market. A very interesting topic that Kevin talked about was how developed domains can have far more value potential than "just a domain," which has been well documented in the past.
The attendees took advantage of this meetup to network, make new industry connections, and do some business whilst enjoying the food and drinks available.
The event included a raffle with multiple prizes: three umbrellas, a free NamesCon ticket, and a free ticket to The Domain Conference. Swag bags were also given to all attendees that included a T-shirt, notepads, pens, a 40% off coupon for NamesCon, a free trial to Whoisology, and a 50% off coupon for a logo design at Scorpion Agency.
DNHouston is the latest in a number of successful domaining meetups across the world. Earlier this week, we brought you an interview with XYZ's CEO Daniel Negari, which was conducted at a California domain investors networking event at XYZ's Santa Monica office.
