domains Top Topics: Will All Four-Letter .COMs Hit $1,000 in April?; Investors Pour Money into .TV...

Spaceship Spaceship
This week's Top Topics from the domain name community contain a lot of very interesting opinions on a number of different subjects: new gTLDs, current investments, and the future of four-letter .COM domains are all covered.

You'll also be able to see the gradual movement within the five-letter .COM space, with just 18.5% of all five-letter .COM Chips available to register at the moment. That's an astonishing amount of registrations of five-letter .COMs. As you may have guessed, Chinese investors are registering thousands of these domain names at a time.

Investors Pour Money into .TV Domains

According to DN.com, a number of investors are acquiring short .TV domain names. The discussion highlights two recent sales. Firstly, there is the sale of QC.tv for an apparent price of 160,000 CNY (around $24,000). This domain, which was acquired by a Chinese angel investor, has many meanings including "car," "money," and "career." The second is the sale of 2.tv for 800,000 CNY (around $122,000).

We have been told that Chinese investors prefer domain names without the letters a, e, i, o, u, or v, but the .tv extension continues to be popular due to the fact that "TV" is a popular abbreviation for Television in China.

Five-Letter and Seven-Number .COM Registration Statistics

With four-letter .COM Chips trading at around $2,000 each at the moment, and with the additional hype surrounding Chinese buyouts, you may be wondering which category is going to be the next hot topic. This discussion has documented the gradual rise of five-letter and seven-number .COM domain names. Within the last couple of days, the registration rate for five-letter .COM Chips has seemingly increased.

At the time of writing, around 18.5% of five-letter .COM Chips remain available for registration. Last Friday, this figure was around 25%, which means that the five-letter .COM Chip category looks like it might be bought out within the next few weeks.

Day One of the Implosion of New GTLDs

Anthony Van Couvering, the CEO of Minds & Machines, was fired earlier this week. Anthony is a strong advocate of new gTLDs, and under his leadership, the company successfully launched extensions such as .London, .law and .work.

In light of this news, one community member argued that this was the beginning of the end for new gTLDs. The member gave a detailed argument that included statistics surrounding registration rates. As you might expect, the subsequent discussion has many differing opinions.

What Are You Currently Investing In?

During the last six months or so, my own portfolio of names has changed somewhat. Two-word .COMs and exact-match domain acquisitions started to be replaced with short .COM purchases of many different kinds. In this discussion, the question is asked: "What are you investing in?"

Four-letter .COMs, keyword .COMs and even keyword .INFO domain names are mentioned in this discussion, among others. What are you currently investing in? Share your ideas and recent acquisitions in this discussion.

Will All Four-Letter .COMs Hit $1,000 by April 2016?

With the rise of three-letter and four-letter .COM Chips last year, some have speculated that four-letter .COM domain names that include vowels should see an increase in value, too.

Will this happen within the next few months? Time will tell, but the general consensus seems to be that some four-letter .COM domains are still under-valued.
