One of the largest global news stories of this week has been the $250 million record-breaking transfer of Brazilian soccer player Neymar from FC Barcelona to PSG. As domainers, we naturally look at the domains associated with these global stories.

It was interesting to note that whilst French club PSG are happy to spend a nine-figure fee on one player, they are yet to secure the PSG.com domain name, which houses a basic text site. PSG currently own domains such as PSG.co and PSG.tv with the club currently operating on PSG.fr.

Why Are Aged Domains So Pricey?

A new domain investor has noticed that many aged domain names in the aftermarket seem to have a high acquisition cost in comparison to newer domain names.

Several domainers have offered explanations for this. The most logical reason could be that higher value domains, in general, were registered in the 1990s or early 2000s. This means that domain names aren't valuable due to their age, but are purely valuable thanks to their attributes.

Do you agree?
