domains New Names: Raindrop.com, Krav.com, Night.Vision and More

Spaceship Spaceship
Welcome to the brand new NamePros series called New Names. In this series, we will be discovering the domain names a successful domain investor has acquired recently. The subject for this series is @Ali Zandi. Aside from being a very popular NamePros member, Ali is the Director of Sales and Acquisitions at Perception.com, a private domain name investment fund.

In his first year in the domain industry, Ali facilitated over $1 million in sales and has been responsible for acquiring some excellent domain names. This week, Ali tells us in his own words about five recent acquisitions and why he bought them.

Raindrop.com

Ali: I bought this domain name because, well, it's probably my favorite domain name ever. The first time I heard the domain name, I fell in love.

Whilst doing all of my due diligence on it, I also noticed that it was almost impossible to misspell the domain while typing (or otherwise). I tried as fast and as sloppy as I could type, and still, I nailed it 99.99% of the time. Regardless of that fact, I also own a lot of its potential typos.

It's also one of the most memorable domain names I've ever heard. How could you forget Raindrop.com?! You can't. It's a mega brand.

On top of the hundreds of positive reasons I have for it, I also wanted to develop it out. I've been seeking a domain name to develop for a long time, and this was it. I had to have it! This one will likely stay in my possession forever.

KailuaKona.com

Ali: The place that changed my life. Kailua Kona, Hawaii is where I call home. It is my favorite place on the planet, and it is the place where I began my domain investing career.

I was browsing through the GoDaddy domain acquisitions from Marchex, and I immediately noticed KailuaKona.com on the list. So what did I do? I frantically clicked buy it now! Buy it now! Didn't even negotiate, and still, I got a great deal on a place I know like the back of my hand. This one, too, will be developed. (See a trend here?)

Krav.com

Ali: This one I picked up as I am a big fan of Krav Maga. It's one of the most lethal forms of martial arts there is, and it was undervalued so I had to have it. Development would be a great option as it could be the go-to website for all things Krav Maga, including eCommerce, training videos, a directory of schools, a magazine, and the list goes on and on. It's definitely one of my favorites.

Night.Vision

Ali: While I'm not the biggest fan of New gTLD's, I do strongly believe that they have immense potential if the right combinations are acquired. For instance, I've acquired Night.Life and City.Life (both sold almost immediately from inbound offers), along with Travel.Agency and a very select handful of these domains.

Night.Vision is an incredible brand. From selling actual Night Vision equipment to branding a security company, and at only $39.99/year renewal, this one is getting held onto for quite some time.

1,200+ 5L Chips

Ali: Yes, I went to town on these. Why? Because they are valuable, trending, and almost all of the good combinations have been sold out, making them a valuable commodity. While it may seem "risky" to some, it's really not. 5L's will be the last letter combinations to sell out, with about 31% or so remaining of the Chips, the market will increase on these, especially the good combinations. I generally do not splurge on bulk acquisitions, but how could I resist? With the trending of 3L's, 4L's, and numerics, the next logical buyout will be 5L's, and I was not about to miss this train.

I had an instinct about them a while ago but didn't act on it. Regretfully, I let a lot of incredible combinations just sit in my shopping cart, then I removed them. I had another chance, and I took it. Win or lose on these, no regrets, but I can almost guarantee a win.

--

Thanks to Ali for sharing five of his recent acquisitions. It's interesting to see that many of his purchases are based around what he knows and loves. KailuaKona.com - a place he calls home. Krav.com - Krav Maga, a form of martial arts that Ali is very familiar with.

It's also interesting to see that Ali has invested a lot in five-letter .COM domains, registering over 1,200 domain names recently. With the amount of available Chinese Premium five-letter .COM decreasing rapidly, could this prove to be a great decision from Ali?

What are your thoughts on Ali's most recent purchases? Comment below.

All great purchases by Ali, best of luck on all. Definitely went above and beyond on Raindrop development and it shows.

Thanks! And yea, I hear you. I sold around 450 5L's which provided the funds to acquire the other 1,200. Riding "free" on these, so it was well worth the potential gamble.

I can't play by the rules ALLLL the time. Gotta let me inner rebel out here and there ;)

Whilst one has to admire Ali's effort afforded the travel site at raindrop.com it may not be the final, and indeed the optimal branding avenue.

Rain Drop is ephitomised with being pure and absolutely clean. Perhaps a new brand for foods, or clean living...

Now there's a typo you never tried for sure :) I read it as raindrops :(

Haha! Truth.

The content is geared towards gathering a following + emails addresses from a specific group of viewers. I have something up my sleeve ;) Which will embody the brand in a much, much larger scale. The site is headed towards something special - i'll be revealing that once my app is built and patents are finalized.

You´re right: TRAVEL.agency is the number ONE domain Keyword+Extension in (.AGENCY)
But if Travel.agency envokes hot weather, hot womens & sunny beaches than
Data.agency envokes information & data about "hot weather, hot womens & sunny beaches" ...
and Credit.agency envokes the $$$ to be abble to "TRAVEL" to a place with "hot weather, hot womens & sunny beaches" ... Ali Zhandi agrees as well ...
