information Joe Rogan Buys JoeRogan.com From Joe Rogan

Spaceship Spaceship
As a UFC commentator and host of one of the most popular podcasts in the World, Joe Rogan has amassed an incredibly large fan base. With more than two million Instagram followers and over three million Twitter followers, Joe has become one of the most well-known voices in the United States.

Even with Joe's ever increasing popularity, he wasn't able to secure the domain name JoeRogan.com since it was being actively used by an Idaho realtor. This has now changed.

We found out about this change of registrants thanks to NamePros regular Jonny Downes (@iAchilles). We were also able to discover that negotiations between buyer and seller had been ongoing "for some time", but they concluded recently when the domain moved into WHOIS privacy at GoDaddy. Around the same time, the domain started forwarding to JoeRogan.net, Joe's established website.

The domain's former owner was a realtor called Joe Rogan who had used the domain name for many years to host his business website, but it seems that the two parties came to terms recently on a sale.

Colour commentator and stand-up comedian Joe Rogan has presented a podcast called The Joe Rogan Experience since 2009 and has featured guests such as Ronda Rousey, Jay Leno and Guy Richie. In October 2015, the podcast received over sixteen million downloads per month and is currently the eleventh most popular podcast on the iTunes chart.

Joe has owned and operated JoeRogan.net for over a decade, with the domain currently boasting an Alexa ranking of just over four thousand in the USA. It's a strong possibility that Joe will permanently switch to JoeRogan.com in the near future.

Unfortunately, it looks like the terms of the deal for JoeRogan.com will remain private, with both parties offering no comment on the sale. There are very few public details available for domain sales of this type, with the only other in recent memory being RandPaul.com, which was acquired by US Senator Rand Paul for $100,980 in 2015. Could this have been a six-figure sale?

Must have been at least 6 figures.

Definetely a six figure sale, I wouldn't expect a realtor to sell it for lower than six figures especially since it's his name and has been using it for several years.

Another reason to own your firstname/lastname .com, especially if both are fairly common. Probably many Joe Rogan's out there.

Yeah, I doubt the guy who sold it would have let it go too cheap.

I've listened to Rogan's podcast for a long time now. He has mentioned on more than one occasion that he had attempted to purchase JoeRogan.com but he felt the former owner was asking what he thought was too high a price.

Now with the podcast getting bigger than ever Joe most likely has run out of excuses for not paying the owner's asking price.

It's good to see an amicable outcome for the purchase of that name where both parties seem to be happy with the transaction and it would seem a good fair price has been paid

Good for both Joes Joe Rogan needs it, and Joe the Realtor can easily rebrand by adding Realtor to his name. Win win situation for both.

Great writeup @James Iles

I came across this by pure chance when I sent an email to Joe Rogan and intuitively tacked .com on at the end instead of .net for the intended recipient.

I heard back from the seller and I asked if he had ever been approached by Joe, which is when I found out they had been dancing back and forth for some time.

Without knowing the value of the domain to Joe's real estate business I chimed in and suggested mid 6 figures is probably what it's worth to Joe. I also contacted Joe and made him aware that the name would likely pay for itself over time with all the traffic and email leakage, even though Joe's asking price was likely sky high. Again without knowing what revenue the .net domain created, but the traffic and email leakage alone must have been huge. I misfired an email to the wrong address!

Between them both they read my mail about 70 times, they closed not long after, I can't really say whether my words had any bearing on the outcome of negotiations but it was an interesting situation that I kept my eye on.

Congratulations to both parties.

I really doubt it went for more than 25k.

Why would the realtor sell his business domain he's used for several years for that little? Interested in how you came to your conclusion.
