information Christmas Domain Names and How They Are Used

Spaceship Spaceship
The Christmas holidays are here and naturally, being a domain investor, I can't help but take a look at some of the generic Christmas domain names and how they are currently being used. I’ve picked out five of my favorite .COM domain names that are relevant to this time of year.

Christmas.com
We can’t have an article about Christmas and domain names without mentioning Christmas.com. After a decade of being parked, Christmas.com was developed in 2012 thanks to the Left of The Dot platform that has also developed domains such as Oahu.com and HomeOwners.com.

The website lists over 40 million products from 400 retailers, and it also features “family pages” that run on private subdomains.

Christmas.com has its own content and additional monetization throughout the site from Google AdSense advertisements.

The Alexa ranking for Christmas.com is at around 200,000 but the seasonal traffic on this domain name will be enormous. According to Compete.com, the website saw ten times more visitors in December 2014 than it did in January 2015.

Jesus.com
In the Christian calendar, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Interestingly, Jesus.com redirects to Metropolitan Community Churches, an international church spanning 37 countries.

In the past, Jesus.com has hosted some questionable sites, as the previous registrant leased the domain name to several people. “Date Jesus” appeared for a while, as did “Bathe with Jesus.”

In 2005, the domain was acquired by Metropolitan Community Churches and now forwards to their website. There is no data on the sale of Jesus.com, but Jesus.net sold for almost $125,000 in 2009.

Snow.com
It’s good to see seasonal generic names such as snow.com being developed. In one of my first blogs for NamePros, I told you how a similar domain - Summer.com - was being wasted. That domain name is owned by a school board and isn’t being used at all.

Snow.com is used by Vail Resorts Inc to host an excellent website prompting you to book a skiing vacation in Tahoe or Colorado, Utah. The company also owns exact-match resort domains such as BeaverCreek.com.

The domain snow.com has a USA Alexa ranking of around 7,700 and judging by the traffic estimates, it receives peaks of traffic around December and January.

EggNog.com
A popular Christmas drink in Canada and the USA. I’ve never tasted it, and judging by the “Eggnog Challenge” videos on YouTube, I don’t want to taste it.

The domain EggNog.com is under WHOIS privacy and parked at DomainNameSales.com. According to Google’s Keyword Planner, “eggnog” received 673,000 searches last December. The domain will be receiving a lot of traffic, but wouldn’t this domain be better as a developed website?

I don’t think it would take too much effort to create a website and post a few eggnog recipes - possibly something for the owner to consider for next year.

Santa.com
Owned by MediaOptions.com. What a great domain name! According to DomainGang.com, MediaOptions.com acquired the domain name along with two partners in April 2014.

At the moment, the domain displays a “Coming Soon” page. Google’s Keyword Planner tells us that Santa received 2.24 million searches last December.

In July of this year, the apparent owner of Santa.net posted to NamePros.com asking for advice on what to do with the domain name; do you have any suggestions or ideas?

With the amount of Santa trackers and Santa apps around, there’s a very good opportunity to develop Santa.com or even Santa.net into a very popular brand.

Happy Holidays!

A very good question about what to with xmas domains!

I presently own Christmas.Wales - Wales is a country within the UK

I have decided to build a site on this, a advertising platform for local businesses in Wales, restaurants, garden centers, pubs, bars, etc

These businesses find it difficult to be heard so what better than a perfect what it says on the tin Christmas.Wales
This advertising will be promoted through google adwords and bing. The cost of advertising compared to paid ads is very affordable with a site wide slot/ad costing $$$$ per year and individual ads per category $$$ per year. After positive consultation with some top hotels its will be a go'er. Budgets are set in the April so looking to start by then!

Kevin Ham was the first owner of that domain "God.com" in the early 70s but I whatbis happening with such a very short 3L domain without development.
He acquired christianrock.com, Greetings.com, wedingcatering.com, God.com and satan.com. Ham is a devoted christian, a family doctor and one of the early domainers who has made fortunes in domain industry.

Thanks to Jmaes Iles for these nice job.
Cheers.

The US Post office reports a plethora of "letters to Santa" during the holidays so possibly a "letters from Santa" to kids (that the parents pay a small fee for) might be a good idea. Granted, it would only be a seasonal business but it might be worth the time/money involved for setup & developing since a huge amount of retail spending (heard it was close to 50% of the entire fiscal year) happens during December. Just a thought....
