YouTube now REQUIRES a Google account link!?

I just went to log into my YouTube account, which I do a couple of times a month. But I can't log in, because I'm getting this message:

Update your YouTube account by linking to a Google Account

You will no longer be able to sign in to YouTube without a Google Account.

What in the world is going on here??

Actually that policy makes sense to me. In fact, Until now was not aware you could open a Youtube acct without also having a Google acct.

Yes, sure, but why do they want to dissuade people from using YouTube? I bet lots of members will stop going there, rather than obey this Google account requirement.

Not a big deal :imho: Google accounts are free and take like 5 minutes to setup. I've been using my Google account there ever since they bought it.

The main problem is that they don't explain what a Google account is, or why you would want one, or why it's necessary to have one if you want to use YouTube.

(I have questions like, "Is a Google account the same as a gmail account? Can I use the same gmail account for more than one YouTube account? Will I now be getting YouTube updates via the gmail account that I never use?")

And if all of this is puzzling to me, it's bound to be even more puzzling to the gazillions of kids who probably provide the majority of YouTube traffic. If Google was going to put barriers up for YouTube users, why on earth wouldn't they give the least little bit of explanation, instead of just scaring users away??

Just dont add any other sevices to your account. If you have a gmail account you already have a Google account. If you have a google account you have to link it to your youtube

Google's getting bigger and bigger, I guess next would be acquiring facebook.
