I like them, but timings are completely unfair for non-US people and no one seems to care for that, which is the worst part. At least, they can be held on weekend, but no one listens.
I guess I didn't realize how unfair, uncaring, and non-listening we are. :(

Please suggest a time that would work better.

It's killing my economy - I need NP$ but can't afford it anymore...
That's not neccessarily a result of the auctions. There are other factors.

The intro of 50np entry fee is an interesting idea and is a useful control against listing modules which should only be dropped.
50np = ~$1 which is the rate for afternic bazaar, so in effect is a speeded up 'proper live auction' version.
The live auction will develop as a key cornerstone of NP (the Sothebys of Names)
Thanks for feedback on the new listing fees. Anyone else have comments on the new list fee?

Anyone with a problem can always move to the good old USA and choose a time zone that is suitable for them.

C'mon guys and ladies the owners of forums the size of NP is very time consuming especially if the owner of the forum works for a living and has a family to consider. RJ and his team have chosen a very neutral day and time for live auctions IMHO. I personally commend RJ for his time and dedication to this community I know how he must feel.

RJ you keep on doing what your doing the majority is behind you.

People raise a good point though. Maybe there can be another time for a second auction that occurs at a different time of the day more suited for the non-US time zone. The difficultly would be setting up mods who would be able to run the auctions. If advertised properl, I am guessing it could be a success.

Personally I think the timing is pretty much perfect.
It means that people in the US can get through the whole auction and others from the UK can get it too if they decide to stay up into the night for it.

I don't think you can ever satisfy everyone, but as the majority of people here are from the US or UK...

Since I'm EST, the time is perfect for me.

The true fact is, you can never please all of the people all of the time. It's just not a possibility since this is a global forum.

Having a set time each week is really great. If people are serious about the auction, they'll make arrangements to be there. If not, they won't... there's always next week.

You don't have to make every single one. I don't.

I'd also like to see some better names. I think a lot of people use the auctions as a way to offload their junk... there's really no reason for that, especially now with the buy out clause in effect. I think we've seen just how much $$$ great names can bring.

That's my .02 on the matter.

Best thing would be to hold auctions on Weekends ( Saturday ) at any time that is suitable for US, considering the fact that Admins and most of the members are from US. But as they are on weekends, anyone who is interested can attend the auction by sleeping late or waking up early and not worry about going to work place next day :)

I didn't want to sound harsh. Really. Just that I really like NP auctions and I cannot attend coz it's 3 AM for me on wednesday early morning and I have to be at work place at around 9-10 PM. I raised the same issue sometime back at http://www.namepros.com/the-break-room/130189-my-suggestions-next-official-np-auction.html

All I'm asking is to have auctions on weekends at any goddamn time !

Thanks,
Pratik

I was surprised when i found out about the listing fee yesterday, i don't mind a lot (even if i find it a little too much) but i hope it's not gonna raise in future. :)

Otherwise, i LOVE the live auction, and i want to say a big THANKS for the staff working hard and making it possible:

THANK YOU ! :)

timing=good

auction length = not good
1. freeze anyone who habitually waits until RJ calls TWICE before bidding
2. once a month up the listing fee to 250NPs (with maybe a 1/2 refund if no sale) with a minimum bid of 750NPs to see if better names come to auction
3. start all auctions out with a minimum bid of 500NP - quickly get through the junk names

imo - saturday auction = bad, but i can see having the auction at say 8 or 9 est or 2-3 est (but i can surf at work)

I like the live auction but unfortunately it is at a bad time for me so I usually have to catch the first 15 and last 15 minutes.

I think an auction featuring high end domains would be terrific, as long as it is in addition to regularly scheduled open auctions. 30% penalty sounds fine to me, 350NP for wefk.com just is not enough, I paid much, much more for that domain within the last year.

I'm fairly new and just went to my first auction yesterday - I like it!

In terms of timing - I dont think you will find a perfect time for everyone.....perhaps consider an weekly or bi-weekly international auction - where the time is more geared to out of North America bidders.

I'm located in the PST time zone - but if there was an Euro/international auction in the middle of the night and there were domains I was interested in, I would set an alarm to wake up and bid.

Perhaps a NP staff based internationally could run the auction.

RJ - great job on the auction!

Peace,
Tarry G

I'm happy about the time of the auctions and as long as I'm happy that is the main thing. However I would be grateful if the administrators keep an eye on any scheduled European Cup Football (round ball) matches and avoid any clashes here...please put back a couple of hours if you don't mind, actually a little more as I would like time to reg my domain name for sale and have a cup of coffee, so say 1 hour after the match ends and of course if it is the second leg, then don't forget to allow for extra time and the likelihood of penalties. I am of course sure that NP is cognisant of latest business practices and are fully aware of the need for flexibility to respond to my needs. And, dare I say it (sotto voce) sod the others. They're ALWAYS unhappy about something...

I am from the UK but I work Early mornings so for me it would be better maybe 3/4 hours Before :)
The Live Auction is great i have sold 4 domains there :)
New listing fee Yes Great Good Idea ...
Would it be possible to make it 3/4 earlier ?

You cannot please all the people all of the time just some of the people some of the time :)

Either way Keep up the great Work -RJ-

My opinions on auctions:

1. The time is perfect for me. Though any one fixed time would create problems for somebody somewhere. Moving time creates confusion to regulars.

2. Economy, I do not know much about economics, buy why should we consider it as inflation, I would consider that as NP is valued more, thats all.

3. My experience, great to very great so far. I participated in 3 auctions, sold two names (one for profit)

Thanks,

Gamehouse

:bingo: on all things mentioned .... None of the issues will ever make ALL people happy , And obviously there is always at least one Whiner in the Group to complain about everything (Even when they don't even understand what they are talking about) ...

I like the direction things are going .... The added fees will hopefully prevent people from wasting our time with domains like "IStayHomeFridayNightstoBeatMyCat.info" :hehe:

We can't have them twice a day - Thats just silly , We can't please all people on a time because - Guess What ? :o It's a different time around the world at any given time ;)

In Fact , The only problem I have seen lately in them are : Peeps popping in during the auction and not taking time to Actually READ the rules etc ... below the chat text box. And everyone of them want things explained to them in the middle of a Live Auction :o

Does NP have any staff members located outside the US that could run an international auction? The current time doesn't bother me because I am CST, but if we could set up another auction time, even more people may participate.

Okay, so it cost me 105NP to negate the auction, and 50np to initiate the auction to begin with, so I am out 155NP instead of making a decent sale.

If Namepros is going to force auctioneers to pay 30% to cancel an auction, then Namepros should ALSO allow members to set a minimum threshhold to start bidding at.

I mean, I certainly am not going to toss away a 4 letter .com for less than registration fee. There's no incentive for me to place a decent name into the auction.

I agree with you. I was surprsed how low my domain went in the auction. I wasn't expected big bucks, but I didn't even recoup my regfee (I netted 200NP$ after the fee).

I personally like the auctions, im in the UK and yeah, waiting till 10pm for an auction to start is a pain in the ass sometimes, but im up WAY past that hour usually anyways, so the time thing dosent concern me.

Overall, the auctions get a thumbs up.

Thank you

people.
how does having it at 3 PM EST (for example) make too many people unhappy?
you get the US, you get Europe, as well as other places around the globe.
Ok, Ideally (for me), 1-2 PM EST would be great, but someone said there is no way to make everyone happy. I agree.
But there is a sure way to make *more* people participate (and hence happy), by getting the auction to start a little earlier.

I believe that setting a minimum fee that you will accept for your domain will still allow your domain to be sold: a good domain is a good domain. But bidders aren't going to voluntarily start out at a higher price if they don't have to.

In the future, if this doesn't change, I'm just going to bid low on all the good domains I can, hoping they will give me 30% np to keep the domain and negate the sale. That could be a real money maker!

Where's saggydimes when you need him ( or her ) ?
