my 2 cents.
Why whould somebody bid on pre-auction and by doing it, rase a price of the domain, which he is going to buy on the auction????
No the early bid would preclude the person from entering the auction. The whole point is if you see a name you really want but can't be at a computer for whatever reason you will still have a chance. For example, if you see a three letter .com that is the acronym for your business you could put an early bid of 5k NP$ and then go to sleep or do whatever. During the auction the starting bid would be 5k NP$ so if anyone else wants it they would have to at least beat your bid. You wouldn't be able to bid any higher so it would encourage you to make a high bid in the hopes you beat all others. The auction could stay live as the domains would still come up for bid as usual and the early bid option wouldn't be used under normal circumstances. domain sellers would be happy because they are then guaranteed at least a minimum bid.

Baring that NP could have a few "official" proxy bidders that will for a set fee bid for you up to a maximum you set. Again to keep the auction live you would have to limit it to a single domain every two weeks or some such restriction.

maybe NP admin is plotting a fully-armed auctioning service in the future, but currently the main role of the current auction is that of successfully providing a light-hearted social experience which brings the community regularly together for a little hoo-hah for a couple of hours or so.

...trouble is that the lowest common denominator voting may not be the optimum time, which should be based on the lowest level of inconvenience for the overall community.
The core community is US-based, so that means EST pm earliest for mid-week auctions. The next core is Euro-based which is 5 hours behind, so the only viable time is really 5pm EST, which is the current schedule. If sufficient demand there might be a case for schedulling an Asian timezone auction to cover India/china/SE Asia markets. This could start 10am EST but would NP admin want to get up that early on a Saturday/Sunday morning?
