DMG Live Auction seems to stumble again;your thoughts?
The Domainer Mardi Gras Live Auction list was going to be released on Friday Feb 13th, and that deadline was moved till today Feb 16th, and still no sign of it yet..(edit: it's pushing midnight here Pacific Time and still no sign of the Auction list)
The DMG conference starts on Feb 19th with the Live Auction being scheduled for Feb 21st. The very short period of time between the finalized catalog of names being released and the auction itself, gives absolutely no time to market this auction to anyone else than the immediate circle of domainers (aka: usual suspects). No time to get any old school media interest, no time to contact potential end users etc, etc.
I am more familiar with the fine art market and how auctions are conducted there. Between the catalog being finalized / printed and the auction itself, it is critical to drum up as much media interest as possible and create buzz among potential purchasers.
Domain Live Auctions these days seem to be conducted along the "Field of Dreams" principle, "Hold it and they will come". This is possibly why the results from the DFG Live Auction were somewhat underwhelming.
Good luck to anyone whose names made it in, here's hoping you get more than one bid over your minimum reserve price....
