.Cam Extension: A treasure to be opened or a chest to be thrown back to the sea?

I recently came across the acronym ‘CAM’ and, besides Carrie Ann Moss =), I found out it could also mean “Common Access Method”...

I immediately thought about the scarcity of .Com domains and how “easy” would be to remember ‘Jazz.cam’, (for instance), especially for the general public:

Jazz.com (Currently Parked and Probably Very Expensive)

VS.

Jazz.cam (Available for only $1,700 aprox. and also appropriate for live events)

In your opinion, would a .Cam be as good as a .Com?

Considering the scarcity, price factor, ease of remembrance (through association), and the fact that both extensions would resolve to a website, I believe that branding .Cam as ‘Common Access Method’ would boost sales and give an opportunty to new domainers to tap into this poorly marketed domain extension...

I see that many have already registered various one-keyword domains on this extension, but there are still great names out there like ‘Cars’ and ‘Feedback’, for instance. Some of these domains could be developed into monetized vlogs and some simply could be sold as ‘hacks’ due to their .Com similarity.

Any thoughts?

Thanks/Regards,

.cam is for camera so noway it will be good replacement for .com if the company has nothing to do with cameras!

Moreover, "Common Access Method" is very specific technical term and not useful if the company has nothing to do with storage devices!

Common Access Method (CAM) is an ANSI standard. Although primarily used for SCSI, CAM is a method for separating host bus adapter (HBA) drivers from storage drivers. HBAs are devices (that is, a card or integrated circuit) that connect the host to other devices. For example, USB HBAs allow the host to communicate with USB devices.

NO and NO.

I Think .Com is the best one.

Anytime you narrow down the end user pool the less value a name has. A .com can be used for anything but a .cam can only be used for a very small niche.

Well, along that line of thinking, I suppose we could just call all non-coms "typos", and hope for the best. eg .co's, .cam's, .ca's, .cab's etc etc.

But no, I would not call anything but a .com a .com.

May just as well spell it with a .ORG or a BIZ or whatever else. I appreciate your talking about one letter but .COM is for Commercial and no you can't spell that as Cammercial

Would you buy a .cam if you were an enduser?

Still, I had some credits on Dynadot and after some thought I bought the following names. In this case they are related to pictures and/or videos and I think I might be able to develop some of them. Let’s see what happens.

Learning.cam (Education)
Investing.cam (Education)
Domainer.cam (Education)

Trending.cam (Fashion)

Graphic.cam (Porn Industry)
Voyager.cam (Tourism)

I found out too that if the name ends in -S then the domain sounds like ‘scam’ which is a drawback of course that should be avoided.
For example;

‘Investorscam’ [investors.cam]

‘Domainerscam’ [domainers.cam]

Cheers,

.Co was probably the once in a lifetime “.com replacement”. It was marketed well and therefore profitable. But then all these new gTLDs came along and caused inflation.

.Cam? No way! As mentioned before, it’s all about cameras / webcam.
