Hello

This is not an advertising thread. And I am sure that most of you already know about the launch of .CAM. So, it is rather a debate thread, in which I expect you to come up with your ideas on which would be the best area .CAM is suited for. I'm interested to see what people think about .CAM and where they see it would fit the best.
Therefore i'm looking forward to hear your opinion on this. Feel free to express yourself.

Well, I guess we had time ever since 2013 to crop up a premium domains list :)

Web cams is an obvious segment... online cams

But "CAM" can also match the following niches...
http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/CAM
...the most profitable probably being "Computer Aided Manufacturing" commonly referred together with CAD (Computer Aided Design)

I have always assosciated the term "cam" with adult activities but that probably says more about me than .cam lol.
If a new extension intends to succeed it needs to get rid of the whole idea of premium pricing and needs to have a wide diversity of possible uses and as far as I can see .cam is neither. Sorry.

Thanks for suggestion. Our main target is the hardware manufacturers, mainly those in the webcams, camcorders, video cams and all kind of video related gadgets. But yeah we have taken in account the CAM/CAD even if it seems to be pretty small niche.

maybe the answer is right below

:)

imo....

Sorry if I offended in any way with my answer. I just meant to say that (I wrongly assumed people know) that .CAM history goes back to 2013.

Yeah I guess everybody associates .cam with adult activities. And that's because of the adult live cams. of course that the extension fits this niche, as well as many other niches which are non-adult. I don't know about getting rid of premium domains, as I think (not sure ofc) no other gtld got rid of them (or they did?!)

but let's say dot cam did eliminate premium pricing

then, maybe.... . it can rise above the udders, which might spur them to rethink their strategy.

as is, which @UniflexDomains alluded to.....the volume of keywords that fit the extension, (which wouldn't be perceived as "adult" in nature), are minimal.

imo....

I don't know of any other new gtld that does not have a premium pricing plan but then I also don't know of any new gtld that has been a success either. By implementing a premium pricing system you are, in effect, becoming the domainer and cutting out the middle man. The problem is that the middle man (domainer) would probably be your biggest customer.
Having said that I can kind of understand why a niche extension like .cam might benefit from such a pricing system. If you priced at say $10 a year standard reg for all names and sold say 1000 registrations (probably mostly to domainers or investors) you'd only return $10K where as you may have a chance to make that with the sale of just 3 or 4 premium priced names.
A new extension like .cam is never going to make millions, that's a fact. It just isn't going to have that much demand but if it makes you a steady turn over and gives you a salary then more power to you.

Funny you
Based on the general consensus about gTLDs I guess this domain would actually make a big :$:hit:$: just by selling subdomains on it to all the others gTLD registries out there ah :?: Or so it seems judging by how people react towards gTLDs :!:

That's funny when you put your six-year-old hat on.
But...
It's good for porn. Basically.

And this is probably why I won't buy any domain in your extension given you don't have the approach of pricing as Donuts.

I like the extension, it should drive up the value of some of my .com domains

G'luck

I believe obscurity beckons within a relatively short time.

Ask insanely high prices for a few select keyword combos (e.g sex.cam) and sell them to wealthy adult website operators. Worked well for the .xxx registry

Then collect as a many protective registrations as possible. .cam is similar enough to .com and has the potential to cause confusion so maybe this will help.

Adult and only adult IMO.

Extremely limiting GLTD, gives a limited brand presence and would only serve use for video streaming etc. I doubt a computer company would want to destroy their brand image with a .cam rather than a .com.

Welcome Andy.
When any three letter. common word domain in your extension becomes premium and have a high price tag, don't you think the opinion in this biggest domainer forum should also be premium?
Why don't you guys pay us for our opinion instead of getting valuable observations for free?
The first doubt comes about the sustainability of your extension is that you don't have trust in your own extension and try to make as much as possible from your self declared premium domains. Let the market decide which is premium or not instead of putting a tag yourself.
You will survive only if you let us (I mean domainers) survive.
