I understand we receive more exposure when listing domains at Sedo or Afternic, but why have them broker the domain sale when you can do it yourself?
I have my names listed with them as well, but I don't use their name servers, I use a Voodoo parked page and visitors use the inquiry form to contact me, I do the entire transaction myself using Escrow.com and I'm in complete control of the domain transfer, which is far different than transferring your valuable property to Sedo or Afternic and depending on them to process it, and in addition having to wait longer.

It really makes no sense unless you don't want to be bothered with the negotiation process, For 15% commission, I don't mind being bothered, A commission rate like that can amount in the thousands of dollars should a big one comes along.

And it's not being cheap, It's like paying someone to water your lawn when you can do it yourself.

That's exactly how I operate also. Park with the parking companies and field all domain inquiries myself. Using Escrow.com of course. Last year was my best year ever. This year has been very barren. Parking revenue up but inquiries almost non-existent.

I've never listed my domains at sedo or any place. I like knowing who I am dealing with vs the anonymity of marketplaces. I'm sure I'm losing out on some sales by doing this though.

Heh, it depends on what that person values more/less: money or time and effort.

There are some people here who do all the dirty work by contacting end-users and then refer the end-users to the auction site where the domain is listed, e.g. Sedo. I never understood this.

I generally have my domains parked on Voodoo or others and deal directly with inquiries, however I understand why someone would forward them to a site like SEDO.

They take care of payment, escrow, and transfer process.

I have made some sales where the time I had to invest explaining everything was not worth the money saved.

I plead guilty to being a fixed price seller thru Sedo/Godaddy MLS. Is 20% usury? Yes. That's why God invented clothes pins. Pinch nose and pad the fixed price. BIN convenience and MLS brand trust are powerful sales triggers in the hands of an impulse buyer. Hard nosed chiselers figure out the whois contact and often respond to a generous 20% discount for dealing direct. Win win.

I have done this fairly often with low to mid xxx sales. A quick targeted email letting the buyer know of the fixed price listing on Sedo and I'm done with it.

Because the brokerage builds trust. Trust makes sales. Look at DNjournal. Most of the big sales are through brokers.

There are many sales done through private sellers as well, but the question is: who are you?

I know Sedo, Godaddy, Afternic. Who are you? What is escrow? How long does it take? Will you send the domain?

Ah screw this, I found another domain instead. I can buy it NOW and I know they are ZERO chance of a scam.

When an inquiry falls through, it is because the buyer bought another domain.

Remember the average buyer is NOT a domainer, but merely a person with a cool idea. You are missing out on huge sales by doing everything manually. How can you compete with the big boys when you are doing everything by yourself?
