I think it's a symptom of the disease, dn-fomo2x. This case it's two-fold, what began as maniacal corona regging seems to have mutated into this rabid beast.

Only a very tiny handful might be worth developing, depending on where c19 goes. It's not an attractive name.

Because they think they can sell these names, its ridiculous. Every single one will expire in 12 months when Corona has gone.

Unless someone has a bumper supply of masks to sell and other preventive measure products and build an informational + ecommerce site around that inventory, I doubt it will go anywhere.

I have FluReady and ThePandemic (both in com) for a long long time. Lots of very low inquiries but no takers and its likely because those types of names will sell better if developed.

I went slightly different direction. My thoughts were that this sbould help encourage flu shots and hopefully will have this included in future shots.

Regged: Flu///Shots.//center.

"Ncov" with quotes 71,500,000 results Google.
"coronavirus" with quotes 2,520,000,000 results Google
"covid-19_ with quotes 500,000,000 results Google

For perspective

"Iphone" with quotes 3,940,000,000 results Google

"crypto" with quotes 175,000,000 results Google

"house" 12,150,000,000 results "
"flu" 321,000,000 results

I even did a keyword search for some of the kind of keywords you would ask why would anyone register that domain?

"inc*st" 187,000,000 results (.com registered)
"p*doph*le" 346,000,000 results (.com registered no active)
"molested" 22,100,000 results (.com registered)
"r*pe" 394,000,000 results (.com registered)
"murder" 574,000,000 results (.com registered)
"nazi" 114,000,000 results
"ku klux clan" 8,940,000 results

Not to be ludicrous or sarcastic about this situation because it is a serious one but if we are to be logical we need to look at numbers in thee end.

Death has been around since life has existed yet the search results for that is only 2,720,000,000 results while Facebook leaves Death in the dust with 25,270,000,000 results.

Even Iphone Beats Death. lol

Nothing should be more well known than DEATH. Death is DEATH. We all Die. We all don't have Facebook or an Iphone.

Covid-19 right now beats "Bitcoin" or "crypto".

Coronavirus right now beats Cancer and Trump and Bitcoin and Crypto and is close to catch up to Death and Taxes. It even beats "Virus" which is the url shortener for Coronavirus and Flu.

and when we check namebio for the keywords that Coronavirus and Covid-19 and Ncov "beats" you will see domains that sold for low $x,xxx and and or high $xxx, xxx.

but before you all say "this jackass is just writing up this extensive thread because he's "invested" in these keywords"

Full disclosure.

Coronavirus 9,272 Monthly searches Google.
Covid-19 monthly searches 0 (Zero)
NCOV monthly searches 0 (zero)

not sure exactly why these numbers above are what they are right now. Can anyone clear that up?
Shouldn't it be higher? no one is typing in "Coronavirus" or "Covid-19" or "NCOV" into Google since December?

Odd.

Or is it because the info is so readily available online no one has to type these into the search box anymore?

If this the case could the data and numbers for other popular keywords from all the data websites be askew aka incorrect?

Different subject. Is Google's "auto-populate" the search box ai ruining the data for monthly searches?

Some of domainers expected could flip domain , reg for < 10 , then offer or add to list in marketplace for thousand dollars. So we pray , their domain would sell soon, and buyer build relevant website to share important news, great content and other aspect about corona virus

Anyone can explain why so many Coronavirus (COVID-19) related domains are registered?
I don't see any reselling value or development potential for these kind of domains...

Some good and truthful answers above.

One of three reasons. #1 to build an informational site for updates, news, etc. #2 to sell to make a profit. #3 to develop to sell products

There are only some (few dozen or so) of the ones I checked today that have a decent value. Several of the best have tremendous potential if developed, but the holders of most of them are domain investors and would rather take xx,xxx than mess with development.

I regged and sold more than a few names related to another 'outbreak' several years ago but nothing for high dollars. Only a couple in very low x,xxx as the 'killer' names were picked up by others as soon as the new 'name' of an old disease hit the airwaves.

Of course many of the names of the current outbreak are regged by people that will be happy if they get 50 or 75 bucks for an $8 reg fee...if an offer comes in that number range or a little more, they should probably sell.

I registered covid19.eu and covid19.tech

Why?

It's currently a pandemic, by definition. We have +107,000 cases in 102 countries/territories, in all continents except for Antarctica.

One of the world's foremost epidemiologists, Marc Lipsitch (Director and Professor of Epidemiology at the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics, Harvard) said this recently in an interview:

"If it really spreads as widely as my projection says (40-70% of global adult population infected), and that is what I think is likely to happen, then there are going to be millions of people dying and I don't think there's any way to get around that."

Youtube: watch?v=iDelUkpFm60

Dr Richard Hatchett (CEO of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations) said this:

"I've been working epidemic preparedness for about 20 years. Completely dispassionately. Without elevating the temperature or speaking hyperbolically. This is the most frightening disease I've ever encountered in my career. It includes Ebola, it includes MERS, it includes SARS. And it's frightening because of the combination of infectiousness and a mortality that appears to be manifold higher than flu."

"We have not since 1918 - the Spanish flu - seen a virus that combines infectiousness and mortality in the same way."

Youtube: watch?v=dcJDpV-igjs

About a month ago I asked about an appraisal for the covid19.eu domain. One of the posters had this to say:

"The virus will be gone soon and then the domain is worthless"

Today we have 7264 cases in the Europe, in 28 countries. Italy has today started a quarantine for 16 million people. It has already killed about 5x more than SARS did.

A lot of people are downplaying the outbreak, as well as the value of related domains. It seems to be mostly based off ignorance and misinformation.

All of this of course doesn't mean that most of the related registrations aren't crap.

Greed, and not giving a shit about anyone else but them self.

People have always regged very negative domain names leading to a crisis or in the beginning of a crisis, aside from being losers and idiots, i really have never figured out why.

Dont panic, but do you understand the measure of this virus?

in the US alone: 447 cases 19 deaths

that is a 4% death rate

now take the population of 600,000,000

at .04 death rate and you have 24,000,000 deaths total just from this virus. Its not just the simple flu. Take precautions. ty.

of course, we will learn and quarantine and prevent, so it will go down from the result of not knowing and surprised, but still very impressive numbers.

On a more serious note:

There is nothing immoral about registering and trading domains related to this outbreak. You do not further the crisis in any way by doing so. It's not like you're taking a scarce resource away from people who need it - like hoarding hand sanitizers/soap/masks.

People are not going to be less informed simply because "covid19.com" may be an ad-ridden scam site. None of the domains are somehow important to public health.

If you think there's a moral quandary related to epidemics specifically, why? And why are you then not a hypocrite if you also register and trade domains relating to diseases like heart disease, diabetes, cancer, dementia, impotence, incontinence?
What about tobacco products? Millions of deaths per year.
Alcohol products? Also millions of deaths per year.
Can't trade meat-related domains as meat contributes massively to cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and global warming.
Porn domains shouldn't be traded due to their effect on mental health.
Products containing sugar and contributing to diabetes? No-go.
Shouldn't trading clothing store domains be banned because it contributes to plastic in the oceans and cruel sweatshops?

Nearly anything relating to consumption goes out the window!

I think the compromise here between those who regged these domains to "make money" and "be greedy f*ckers" is to develop their coronavirus , NCOV and Covid 19 domains into auto blogging websites using the rss feeds of the top news websites.

I think you can create an rss feed from every news website to show online news with keyword "news" and then take that feed plug into whatever autoblogging setup you have on your website. If your system is smart you'd have created a way to jumble the rss feeds from several news websites and now you have a news blog that runs on it's own. Add a newsletter so people can get news direct to their website or set up some kind of sms system to send them up to the minute news texts.

now you have a subscriber list.

see now all the above you are not being a d*ck anymore. you are actually contributing and helping out.

but of course to keep such a website up and running since nothing is free including hosting for a proper blog.

no one will complain if you have ads on it for say.

1. latex gloves
2. N95 masks
3. hand sanitizer.

just sign up for Amazon affiliate program, Walmart, Target, etc etc. Any that sell these products.

if your domain is a good one that looks "legit" promote on social media and that should be it. done and done.

now you are the registrant of a coronavirus or covid19 domain and not a d*ck. best part is it pays for itself so on loss of money there.

Technically this would be a "Developed" site.

if you have an exact match domain for coronavirus or NCOV or Covid-19 in any DECENT extension then your chances of getting traffic is better than those that aren't Exact matches and aren't regged in the top 10 domain extensions like .com,.net,.org,.us,.eu,.cn,.info,.top,,.ca,,.in,.co.uk, etc etc.

Because people have no clue how domain trends work. The idea is to actually see a return on keywords not buy a dumber name than your mates just because he got one.

I played safe. I went with domains that can serve multiple purposes, trend or no trend.

CrisisWise.com - Crisis Wise | can work for a crisis/reputation management firm.
UrgentMart.com - Urgent Mart | can work for the sale of emergency supplies at any time.
SafetyWard.com - Safety Ward | can work for a security/protection company.
