Why is my internet running very slowly

Hello thanks for reading my thread.

My internet is running extremely slow lately. I have the same ping when pinging at dnsstuff.com, I get the pages to load the same speed, but my downloads are about 1.5kbps from any server! Even my own. My friends say they get there normal rate about ~300-400kbps which is what I used to get. Once verizon took me off of the contract and put me on month to month (which btw costs $10 more) the internet download rate has been so very slow. And at moments i get no response from my ping. Verizon ignors my question when i bring it up. Do you think they are overselling the lines? To many people on one line? I have been kicked from my ip once for nothing . I do not run webservers or anything from home.

I have dsl, it should not be 1.5kbps. Even dialup is not that slow...

Any suggestions?

if websites load the same speed, i dont think it would have to have anything to do with your connection

Thanks everyone.

I have scanned with norton, and a few of those from lyte. Also a few others. Nothing showed up. I turned of google web accelerator and relized that it was that causing the problems because its proxy. I figured this out by going to whatsmyip.net while it was one and it showed some other ip. Now its all good
