.info Why is .info cheap?

I don't know if this question has been asked before, tried searching but I cant seem to find it. Why are .info domain cheaper compared to other? I mean go daddy sells them for like 99 cents.

Well they were given away free at one point. .Info has taken the route of trying to be promoted by pure numbers so that's why you're finding them so cheap.

Pricing is a way to compete with more established TLDs.
But AFAIK the low price applies to first year of new registration only, subsequent renewals are at a higher rate.
