I just found out that the domain name I had been after for weeks isn’t for sale anymore! after I saw it for sale I gathered all the money I had laying around and tried to contact him, assuming that I could rase what ever asking price he had and then develop an awesome idea I had. but now i have no hope. it was going to be my flag ship and now ill never get the domain to go with it :( no matter what. hundreds of hours wasted! I was willing to pay thousands! :(

I HATE THIS!!!!

:'(:( :'(:( :'(:( :'( :(

Gotta keep the head up Q.
Sometimes the biz seems to sway in the "other" direction at times, but from humble experience all I can say is that there will be another "flagship" most likely sooner than later.

Keep Your Head Up :)

.... and "Don't count your eggs before they're in your basket" is a good point of view to have on Development of Domains -

It's very important to not become emotionally involved in any investments... that includes domain names.

I know it's easier said than done, but you'll be much better off for it in the end.

There is always an alternative solution. Keep your focus, and don't lose sight of the big prize... whatever that may be for you :)

I wish you much success-

Does the current owner know this? It wouldn't hurt to make an offer anyway. Maybe he's willing to find another.

Hey QBert

i'm sorry to hear about your loss. flagships are flagships, and the loss of them requires a total regrouping. just remember, real innovation is always better than a good catchphrase. ebay.com was not the most obvious name for an auction site... until they were. ditto for google and crackwhore. if you're meant to launch a top-notch ebiz, you've still got it in you.

bon courage

I know the feeling Q.
Earlier this year, my brother-in-law, who was administering the domain of my first online presence, (and a name that suited my work perfectly- like no other could), mistakenly let the name drop while the site was down for construction and I was focused in on a new site. It was the .com for my studio name, my monicker, the name for my designs etc. My personal name continues to be a primary link to this address and vice versa. It was picked up by a large PPC 'ho, who wouldn't sell it back to me- and, I was willing to pay a premium.

Emotionally, it was akin to losing a close friend- my identity was really tied up in this name.

I have since gone w/ an alternate related name that I had already regged- one that is actually much better for SEO, more universal, and would be considered far superior by e-marketers. I like it and identify w/ it. But, I still get "twinges" whenever I think about my original domain, and what they have done to it. Have to say though, that 6mos. later, the "twinges' come around less often, and are getting weaker.

Keep your head up.

Q: Not the end of the world. It wasn't meant to be. But remember...It's not over til it's over (or til the fat lady sings).

Haven't heard any fat ladies singing lately...have you? :hehe:

Good-luck with the dotnet and, who knows, maybe the dotcom will be yours yet.

Best of luck!

And avoid Oprah Winfrey until you get the domain. You never know when she'll start singing XD

btw, I'm sure the new owner would consider selling it for the right price :)
