The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
They are a pain in the rear.

Here are some reasons:

Pain to transfer out (long wait time)
Pain to push domains (need sec. answer from other party + support rep)
Reg more than a few names, has a tendency to time out while you drop all 2yr options to 1yr
Failure at end of transaction, i.e. blank page
Failure overall, cannot reg names because of some other glitch
Ask for help via chat and half the time they cannot help you... i.e. "it's above my level I will send it to someone else and maybe we'll email you in 2 days about it."

I like the prices on sale, hate them overall.

I saw one of your domains for sale today. Tried to set up an account there so you could push. It looks like I have to buy hosting? Or deal with tech support to set up an account. Too much trouble

Dotster, Netfirms, Domain.com and 1 or 2 more are all clones. The owners are pumping out sites instead of putting money into fixing their interface and adding new features like account security.

Before you know there will be another clone coming out soon. Called Netster or Dotfirms or something like that.

Don't hate them as they have regular promos, just wish they invested in improvements and support instead.

Id rather pay more for safety, ease of use, and necessary features

Last month I tried to register 150 names at Mydomain.com (one of dotster clones), and you can imagine how terrible my experience was.

I started to select names and put them into my cart at 10am, then change 2yr into 1 yr. When number of domains increasing, the speed getting slowly and slowly.

And I failed like around 2-3 times- time expires, cart empty, or webpage too slow to refresh successfully.

So about 5pm in the afternoon, I gave it up. I contact their online customer, they said they would ask some specialist to help me out, and it would take up to 48 hours. They said they would still charge at 1.99/name, even thought the promo finish. You know that I thought it would still be OK as I didnt want spend even 1 min more on this site.

- In the next 2 days, nothing I heard from them and my names not registered. I contacted them they said sorry, and they names would be registered in next 48 hours

- Again in next whole week, nothing happened, no names registered. I contacted them, they said sorry and they would help to figure this out

- in the next 48 hours.,....nothing happened

- one day later , I contacted them they said b/c of lack of specialist, they were very slow to deal with my case, but they would finish in 48 hours.......and ,,,,you know I had almost gave it up.....but I was just very curious that how they could finally help me out

- 3 days later, SHIT HAPPENED.

when I wake up in the morning, my paypal- connected to my bank card, was withdraw $1500 USD.....

SPEECHLESS.....

I was heading to a meeting at that time. and when the meeting finish, about 1 hour later, Mydomain sent me an email and said they charged wrong price, should be 1.99/name, not 9.99/name. But they would need 1-2 week to process my refund.....

I am tired. I dont want to write more..

hmm thats weird ill have to keep my eyes open I havent really had any issues with them so far, which is why it seems so strange that everyone hates them. Aside from not having bulk reg option, I dont really have many complaints.

Also the link to create a new account is >> https://secure.dotster.com/register/registration.bml << @WGS_Thunder Not that i expect u to buy the name still, just if you ever need to =)

and also the push is not that hard, you contact support to move to the account - if they dont want to give you the security code, you just have them add it from their domain panel and its good to go i dont ever give out my security and i buy a bunch of dotster names

I just saw a .com I wanted to purchase from someone that has a domain on Dotster, so in getting ready to get it, I tried to set up an account and couldn't unless I purchased hosting..so I called them, and Nope! I don't have to purchase hosting to set up an account, but the need my cc to set up an account, even though I won't be charged, and there is no way to set up an account over the phone, or without the cc..
Also, The guy asked me where I found the domain for sale and I told him, and then he yelled at me that they might not own the domain since it's not for sale on Dotster..LOL!!!
Nah..I think I will move along..

Funny when pushing a domain between accounts, their support asks you to provide the Security Question/Answer pair for both your (seller's) and the target (buyer's) account!

I'd really like to know, how long did it take to get your refund?

And yeah, I'd be speechless too.
