There's so much crap going on in the domain industry at the moment... But nothing, NOTHING, bugs me more than that WHO.IS has become absolutely useless.

I used to use it all the time, like 100 times a day, to check various things but nowadays ~90% of the time the info given is flawed. Like just downright wrong. Everything from domain availability to exp. dates, registrant info and nameservers of my domains is broken. And no, updating doesn't help at all.

Oh why, oh why...

If they cannot connect to the whois server, they will serve the cached data, which can be off.

Use the live search on www.gwhois.org

My point is that everything used to work great, data was accurate most of the time and it was super easy to use with a super simple interface. It was my go-to whois service. And now they somehow broke it, i.e. the data the is flawed most of the time.

Maybe I'll start to use gwhois.org then, seems ok.

Who.is was my first choice as well. It was very accurate almost every search.

About 2 years ago I noticed it yielding information on deleted domains and not updating.

Ever since the redesign (what, 2 months ago), everything went to hell IMO when it comes to accuracy of the data. What on earth did they do to it...

@David Walker Btw, thanks for gwhois, I think I like it already more than who.is :) Now that I think of it, I gotta admit that one of the main reasons I started using who.is over other whois services back in the days, was because the domain, who.is, was/is just so cool :)

I used to perform lookups there on a daily basis as well...The data is so inaccurate now I stopped using them several weeks ago. They're traffic has probably dipped so much by now..

I'll admit that was one reason why I used them as well (easy to remember).

Though, accuracy was more important and I can remember a g and org. ;)
