Why do people do that?

A couple months back I contacted an owner of .ca domain that had it sitting as an 'under construction' page for the past year, and I offered to buy it from them for $200. It was almost due to expire.

Well the owner responded and said they would take no less than $500. I countered with $300, and that i was open to a further counter offer, but I got no response. It's a good domain, but not worth $500...

Anyways checking the upcoming .ca to be released domains what do I see? You guessed it, the same domain. This is the second time this year this has happened! What are these people thinking? Are they that blinded by greed in the moment of an offer that they let the sure thing go, only to drop the name for nothing? If they found no better offer why not contact me knowing I was willing to pay? I supplied email, url, phone and address so it's not like they couldn't find me!

Oh well, now I have to try to snag it in the drop. People - take the for sure thing when it's in front of your face if you are not going to use the domain! I'd say the domain, but i suspect there is going to be enough interest in it on Wednesday as it is.

LoL. I have yet to have that happen, then again, its only a matter of time. I do regret some of my initial offers having without a doubt blinded by greed. Perhaps they will pay off, but any domain that has recieved an offer, I will not allow to expire lightly.

yup.

the guy didn't even bother responding. e-mail didn't bounce. i realize there may be other reasons he didn't respond, however...

i got myself a great domain (.com in this case) - it went to TDNAM, and no one bid. I WIN. :)

i would have paid up to... $300US for it, no questions asked. :)

people are funny - to say the least.

I once got an offer that I did not accept, then I decided not to renew it and
contacted the one who offered to buy the domain. However in this case there
is no email response, don't know why, I just let the name drop.

So you never know, the email could be lost and spam filtered etc or just people
are busy.

Yes I emailed a women before about a .ca for a business I was setting up for a family friend, she had this generic domain for years .. and she was completely suprised I contacted her about it and said she was not going to re reg and ended up selling it to me for the price of the remaining 2 years left on it (30 bucks) .. sometimes you get lucky.

the answer unfortunately to the original thread question is 'yes'
there is a logic with some domainers:
1. thoroughly upset that no offers are received for their domains.
2. thoroughly convinced that if any offer is received that the domain is worth double whatever is offered.
3. whatever else happens you can't have it!

My favourite reply when i offer the actual resale price of that domain to the owner that "in your dreams". How mature is that. I mean if he rather counter offered there could be a deal, but no he havent even tried it. Imo its his loss not mine.
