Thought I would start a thread asking everyone, old and new... what do you base your selection(s) of new reg's on?
This is not aimed at those of you who are finished looking for new gold. Just looking for opinions from others as to why they are choosing names. Hopefully, this will help to educate all.

I'll start with some standard categories. Ignore the ones you don't consider. Add your own as you please. Please place them in your order of importance.

  1. Applicable to mobile environment
  2. Google Search Results
  3. Ovt / Wordtracker results
  4. Google Trends
  5. Exisiting .com site (better if developed)
  6. Already taken on most other major Tld's
  7. I just like how it sounds / looks / feels

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

The most important thing to me is who would be the potential end users and how much would they pay for that type of name if it was in .com and also what kind of business could be built on the domain. If I dont think the domain has potential to make good money in the future then I dont want it. I also check the other extensions, google, and ovt. If it is a domain that I want to develop for fun then its different and I dont care about google or ovt or other extensions.

You forgot one...

8. Can I develop this name? ;)

That's usually number 1. for me, followed by:

7. I just like how it sounds / looks / feels

1. Applicable to mobile environment

2. Google Search Results

3. Ovt / Wordtracker results

Most of the time I don't bother checking OVT for .mobi
