Hi, I recently did a whois search on a domain and it said account suspended.

The domain owners e-mail and contact info was still there and I tried to contact him to buy the domain but he hasn't got back to me in over a week.

Can someone explain to me what account suspended means as the domain is still registered to him for a couple of years but isn't being used, not even parked.

Also is there a way of contacting the registrar to buy the domain direct from them in such circumstances?.

Thanks for any help.

what part of the whois had that message?

sometimes "account suspended" on a website is a message from a webhost that means a website has exceeded its allowed 'traffic' for a month, or sometimes it means the webhosting account payment is past due.

How do you know that the domain is not being used? Although there is no "web page" when you type a domain into the url window of your browser, there may still be mail service or other net services using the domain. For example, I had a premium domain that only had a DNS server operating under the name for several years (no website, no mail).

Looks can be deceiving.

Indeed. It's arguably funny why one thinks a domain name isn't being "used",
simply because it doesn't show any website at all.

Gardenplant, how about a phone call to the registrant? And the registrar isn't
likely to "sell" the domain name if it's suspended, unless it's maybe Go Daddy.

Hi everyone,

When I type the Url directly into my address bar it takes me to a landing page which reads "account suspended".

The domain is registered with canaca.com. I will probably have to call the registrant up and forget about contact through e-mail, it's just that I wanted to try everything other than direct phone call as it seems a bit inappropriate to call someone about buying their domain as I don't think the guy is a domainer, domaintools shows that he has just 3 registered names.

My question was just to really find out what the term "account suspended" means if ever I came across it again, but I think cdboard's last point could be relevant to this domain.

As ever thanks for the help guys.

If it comes up when you visit the domain then that probably means his hosting account is suspended and not the domain. I dont think there is any way to know if a domain is suspended.
