Hi,

Anyone has any recommendations to a reliable appraiser? Most appraisel companies tend to overprice a domain, I was thinking of going for http://www.appraiseour.com/

Thanks for your time!

Never heard of them - Most folks Shouldn't bother paying for Domain Appraisals anyway IMO .... It is generally just a waste of money and time (Not to mention the majors known in the "Paid Appraisals" area are Frauds).

Good Luck :)

Just post it in this forum, you don't really have anything to lose

yeah - post it here. Remember you most likely get wholesale appraisals. Only YOU and the buyer can really descide the retail value.

The advantage of posting here is that it's public. If you ask for an appraisal and someone is trying to screw you by trying to underappraise it, so their partner in crime can swoop in and take it for far under value, there are others who will tell publicly on the forum that the underappraiser is full of < Edit - HIMSELF>.

I really don't think anyone should pay for an appraisal... A domain is worth what an end user or buyer is willing to pay... I like to get a feel for what others think of a domain by posting in the Appraisal forum here, but take it with a grain of salt...

My only personal experience with a "pay for appraial" site was a bit fishy to say the least. I asked them to appraise a decent name that was less than 1 month since registration. They told me it was worth $5,000 so I said wow! thanks, for an easy sale how about you buy it from me for $2500? Never heard another word... If they were so sure of it's value they just threw away $2500...

Anyway, I guess others will have their own opinions too...

What is the point of having any domain appraised, either for free or a paid appraisal?

If it's appraised for $100,000 and someone offers you $25,000 would you tell them, "Sorry you'll have to offer me 4 times that amount because some kid on a domain forum told me it's worth that much" ?

If it's appraised for $10,000 and someone offers you $20,000, will you tell them, "It's only been appraised for $10,000 so I really can't accept that much for it" ?

A domain name is only worth what someone is willing to pay you for it. It doesn't matter what your friends think it's worth, what your girlfriend thinks it's worth, or what some appraisal company thinks it's worth. Nobody is going to up their offer because you can show them a piece of paper saying "ABC Appraisals value this domain at $50,000".

An appraisal on a domain doesn't work the same way as an appraisal on a diamond, or a used car. With a domain, the appraisal serves as a guideline; a way to know what others, who aren't interested in the domain per se, would pay for the domain. It's more or less an objective estimate of what is a reasonable offer for the domain.

Ultimately, the buyer doesn't care who appraised it; that means shit. But the appraisal gives the seller an edge against being screwed over.

I gotta ask how someone decides they have the skill to become a professional appraiser... I mean, is that a joke, or...?

I think Sedo is one appraiser, not sure how good they are (they did an appraisal for one of my sites a while ago). They get more commission as the domain sale prices go up, though, so I think they have an interest in possibly inflating appraisal prices.

I do agree with Owen, though. Domains are only TRULY worth what someone is willing to pay for them.

EDIT: PLEASE DO NOT respond to those emails that ask you for an appraisal. They are a SCAM and the sender does NOT want to buy your domain. They own the appraisal sites and are trying to scam you.

If you DO respond, ask that the potential buyer to do the appraisal himself/herself and offer to deduct the appraisal fee from the appraisal price/your price if you sell the domain.

Same way someone decides they're skilled to be a chiropractor, maybe :D

Id just post in the various domain forums, but take any appraisal with a VERY LARGE grain of salt. Basically its all just personal opinion...there doesnt seem to be any real system in place for appraising a domain as far as i can accertain.

If you have something really good it might be worth having it done professionally, but in the end, its all about what you can get for it, and the appraisal means 0

I'd have more faith in appraisals if they had a concrete rubrick for grading a domain name, like they have when appraising anything of concrete value.

Methinks the Original POST is just a little too much like a shameless plug for their own Appraisal service.

I misspelled it intentionally. I hate the word too...just an overused word by idiot educators who can't get a job doing anything else.

the most important factor imo of an appraiser is how many domains that person have sold. Not just bought. Its through selling and selling over a long time that you gain the true feel of value. I have bought a lot but not sold ANY so my opinion is worthless even though interesting at times.

Its ok to give an opinion but when it comes down to really "knowing" only an experienced seller of domains can tell you. (their opinion)
tend It all really is about opinion. (and hard cash in the end)
