I ve heard that some sites actually steal domains, so which one whois search is safe to use?
So far, I know who.is(but is who.is somehow related to name.com, if so, then, it is probably not so safe to use it then?) and domaintools.com, I wonder if they are safe to use? or it there a safer choice?

The best place to search for domains is to use the domain registry whois, ie whois.crsnic.net for .com/.net domains. But even they used to sell their searches. Not sure if they still do.

iWhois.com is/was recommended by the owner of NameCheap.com as safe to use, because he knew the owner. But their interface changed, and I don't know if that was any indication of change of owner. I preferred their old interface personally. Much easier to read. But now they have many more tools to play with.

Nobody can give you any cast iron guarantees if the registry is selling the searches. Anyway you should not trust anybody's word on the internet unless you know them personally. That's the hard reality.

Iwhois.com did change ownership. Even after that and all these years, though, I'm (jokingly) disappointed I haven't seen a domain name taken soon after being searched there, heh.

I agree with what stu said, OP: the reality is no one can guarantee that the available domain name you found will remain that way by the time you get to it. Any of those sites can say they don't sell searches or what-not, but...that's just about it.

Thanks guys, I guess I cant trust any of them then.
so people normally just register their domains promptly (without thinking much)as soon as they find out that they are available?

Yes. Well with the proviso that I actually intend to register the domain I'm searching for. Because sometimes I do a whois lookup, surrounding one of my names to see if there is any competition. Sometimes I'm just curious. But if I want the domain, I register it there and then, immediately.
