I would like to take a survey from you..

:: Pls note : If possible mention if its a Top level Webhost or a Webhost Reseller ::

How about without being biased and your choice should only be top level Webhosting NOT resellers.. can you rank a few?

Exactly. There are millions of webhosts. There are thousands of domain registerars. You can rate registerars. You can't rate webhosts. There are too many. In terms of cost, the 100 cheepest are most likly scams.

I've tried a few, and the one I've liked best so far is Lunarpages.
Great customer support (IMO), nice features and an ok price.
I'v hosted a couple of my sites there for two years, and I've never had any (significant) problems..

But as it's been mentioned in the other posts here, there are tons of different webhosts out there, so it's really hard to rate them all.
But I agree that you should stay well away from the cheapest ones, you usually get what you pay for, and if you don't pay much, then you can't expect to get much in return either... ;)

I thought that cheap hosting would be a scam too, but I've been with Active Web Hosting for quite awhile now (with other domains I used to have as well, that is) and for the price they are very good. They give you TONS of space as well as full CGI and free domain name, which I personally thought was amazing for what they charge. Right now I only have one domain with them as I am only making one site at the moment. Their customer service is quite good too. I'd recommend them highly. :)

I do think it's hard to rate all the hosting companies out there though. I mean as mentioned by others, there are tons of them. I think there are also quite a few web hosting review sites out there as well. Those might also be a good place to start your research.

Just for clarification-
I offer cheap hosting and I dont scam people. Hosting should be cheap. The whole industry is overpriced. In fact, I could charge people 200. yearly - would my tech support or customer responses change? Nope.
Would anyone know the difference? Nope.

Its people that start a hosting company out of their garage or bedroom you have to watch out for. Of course you'd find out quickly by using their services for a short period.

My point is -
There is so many hosting company's and you just dont know until you try them out for a period to see if the server runs how they claim it runs and not always down or being fixed or whatever.

I agree with identity_00 though I think it boils down to how well they provide service. Some people start off small and they can become a great professional service as they expand. If I had the money and space, I wouldn't mind starting a service with a couple racks in a basement and building on it. It's all in how you provide service and customer support that really counts. The price isn't the only consideration. Just another idea... When looking at reviews, some things to check for besides just price might be services they provide, customer Satisfaction, hosting company's customer support availability, are they in the top lists of the review site?, etc.
