I highly recommend them to anyone thinking of hosting a site any size.
Since I have been with hostgator I have had NO DOWNTIME whatsoever (since the start of the year) and it looks like that's not going to change.

They give you a LOT of space and bandwidth too, so you don't need to worry about conserving space at all.

I have heard mixed reviews about them, but positive ones outnumber the other.
So if some one is looking for an overselling bussiness model, I guess they are the best.

I have also heard alternate reviews about them. But most of them are good. I think they are good in reseller plan.I had saw some bad review about Hostgater,especially their support. One of the major arguments toward them are, they didn't respond when the need of an urgent service.

by far terrible..

I just install vb.. (http://www.h0ly.net/forum/)

and their servers are so slow.. that it took 30 seconds for each page to load..
either they were just down or going exteremly slow but it is making me so mad

They are good and affordable but hostgator is not the best web hosting provider.
There are othres like bluehost, hostmonster, ipower, ixhosting etc... They all are good.

Companies you have mentoed are good and at the same time they can't be good for everyone. That's why they have negative revies as well.

You have to look at majority of the feedbacks. If a hosting company got more than 90 % positive feedbacks, it is safe to go for it. If you look for 100 % feedback, you maybe waiting for next thousand years.
