There are many marketplaces available to complete a sales transaction if your buyer isn't comfortable with Escrow.com or Paypal. I am not comfortable with Paypal. Anytime a buyer wasn't comfortable or knowledgeable with Escrow I would then use Godaddy to complete the sale since it was only a 10% fee but as you know the fee changed to 20%. Now Godaddy, Sedo, Afternic etc….all cost about the same to complete the sale so which one have you found your buyer most comfortable using.

Getting the buyer to understand the sales transaction is 100% safe and secure is difficult sometimes. This is why I pose this question to see what you have found your customers to be the most happy with.

SEDO by far.
As much as I consider their non-sales support to be consisted of single-cell organisms, their sales department works wonderfully.
They have completed transactions without me doing anything other than giving the AUTH.
What I like most is that they inform you of everything that happens along the way and answer questions within 24hrs.

On the other hand, I have made a sale(?) with Afternic around 4-5 days ago. I have left a message to the escrow agent and haven't heard from anyone since the sale was initiated... nothing. The completed steps showing on my panel showed 2/3 when the sale started and now it's down to 1/3 for god-knows what reason.
Not very professional to be honest... Even GoDaddy (which I consider the worst) answer generally within 48hrs

I have been selling names for over 15 years and 99% of sales come from parking leads or whois search. I have never come across a buyer who have said they are not comfortable with Paypal and Escrow.com (Both are well reputed systems and protect both buyer and seller). Though I had been proposed couple of times - 'can you list the domain on sedo' - I can do that but they charge xx% for this, if they want to incur the charges, I am fine with that - and they do not pursue the option.

When the price is negotiated, I give them 2 options
1) Deal with me directly - we sign the agreement, you make the payment through paypal, bank transfer etc., I transfer the domain to you
2) You use third party like escrow/sedo
Either case, they pay the transaction charges

Once payment is received, how is transfer is that I create an account for them at my current registrar, do the internal transfer and send the password reset (forgot password) link so that they are assured that I no longer have access to their account). And I never hear back from them.

I should have worded it a little different. I should have said to convince themselves. I edited above. I am not comfortable using Paypal for the transaction unless it is for very little money and not many outside of the domain space have heard of Escrow.com. It has sometimes been much easier to use Godaddy because who hasn't heard of them. You see their ads on TV, auto racing etc….they are literally everywhere so I have found it very easy for buyers to complete transactions with them and myself not having to be involved in the transaction at all.

You don't have to list on sedo to use sedo for the transaction. You can use sedo just for transfer - they charge the greater of 3% or $60, and you can specify who pays the escrow fees.

The nice thing about doing it that way is that sedo will handle escrow for both the money and the domain, so it's secure for both parties.

Can you use sedo as an escrow and pay 3% fee if the domain is listed with them as make offer? as I don't ever get offers on sedo directly, most of my sales are through my landing page, however using them as an escrow for 3% fees seems really good, so I might just remove all my domains from their site if thats the case.

Sounds to good to be true. I think Sedo charges much more than 3%.

@ The New Guy
Yes do not have to list it to sell it through them, and I like them, as they are cheaper than escrow.com and most in Europe like Sedo as they have heard of them. Plus good thing about them is that 'they manage the transfer' while escrow.com does 'nada'. NetworkSolutions also manages the transfer but they are expensive. And Sedo payments are much faster (same day as you transfer to their sedo account). Escrow - you are looking at a week, and NetworkSolutions - agh.. they still have old style checks.

Recently, one buyer asked me, can I list it for sale at Sedo (probably the sedo guy asked them to ask me to do that). I said they charge about 10-20% of listing fees - and then they did not ask me further.

I just checked and it is only 3% for Sedo escrow. I also like the fact that Sedo handles the domain transfer. I have always been baffled as to why Escrow.com does not handle the transfer.

That's what I've done. Sedo has been useless for sales, even with promotion.

If someone wants your domain they'll visit your parking page whether it's on sedo, voodoo, or your own site. From there you can handle the sale on your own.

I wonder how many end-users really come to the domain auction sites, I have tried and have never been able to find anything that I was looking for.
