There is a lot of talk about the increasing number of internet tv channels. In the UK, as an example, the government are even offering £35 million towards getting local channels off the ground.

If you had the budget and were setting up an internet TV channel, say for a local geo, which option would you go for if you could only have one:

A. LocalGeo.com at $20% of your budget

B. LocalGeo.co.uk at $5% of your budget

C. LocalGeo.tv at $2% of your budget

D. LocalGeoTV.com at $2% of your budget

In the past I have owned (and still do) each various option and they all have their own merits. I just wondered what others would plump for if it was their budget?

I think you take 4% and go with option C and D. Then you promote your station under localgeo.tv.

Since you are UK based and catering for a UK audience, I'd choose option B.

I would definitely get the .com and since it's for the UK you could also get the .co.uk and redirect one to the other. YouTube and Hulu have quite a few monthly visitors and they use .com. Here in Boston a local news station uses BostonChannel.com

I would take .tv first as well. If however the budgets allow it, I'd register the .co.uk as well. In the UK (lived there for 2 years myself), .co.uk is at least equally popular (if not more popular) as .com

If you could only pick one, B (.co.uk) would be the top choice.

Reason is that .co.uk is popular there, as well as, maybe easier to get some of the government funding you spoke of.

Ideally, both A and B would be good to have.

NOT C or D unless the cost was relatively low; use only as redirect and/or mini-site.

.TV is risky in various regards (I won't rehash all the reasons here; search the forums), plus the recent political uprisings in Tuvalu (to whom .TV is delegated) raises questions of the stability of the .TV tld.

In fact, only option D is not good in my opinion. Options A, B and C are all good. The .tv is good because of the obvious reasons, .co.uk is the primary extention in the UK, and .com is so cheap these days you can just as well register it as well. Only option D in my opinion is not suitable for mouth-to-mouth advertising so I'd stay away from that one.

B for countries where the national ccTLD is popular, such as Great Britain. But if you aim for a global audience (and not only Brits worldwide), I would go for .tv.
