I recently attempted to register the domain name (verb)books.com, because there is a project I am trying to start and I had already registered the singular (verb)book.com. However, the registrars show the name is not available, and this is what whois shows:

Created On: 04-Jun-2007 00:00:00
Expiration Date: 04-Jun-2011 00:00:00
Sponsoring Registrar: GODADDY (GODADDY)
Status: null

Any idea?

Looks like the name has been registered for 4+ years.

If the registrar showed it was available there must have been an error.

4th June 2011 is in the past. Perhaps your registrar shows it as available as their system for checking availability is flawed.
Does WHOIS still state 04 June 2011? It might still be in the drop process (which can take up to 70-odd days in total).
Try whois.godaddy.com since the domain was there- it may give more information. I'm guessing it will say 'status: Redemption Period'. If it does, check if it's available in GoDaddy Auctions - auctions.godaddy.com
If not you can try back-ordering the name with a drop catcher, or waiting for it to drop and pick it up then (and hoping nobody else is waiting for that too).
If you do try and but through GoDaddy auctions, there is a small chance that the original owner may become aware and pay the redemption fee to get the name back- although one would assume if they're serious about the name they would also have bought the singular version too so this probably won't happen.

By (verb) I meant a verb, because I do not want to disclose the name in case I can be able to catch it. It is ___Books.com.

Looks like everyone understands that... (??)

I think you should give WHOIS a check if its not taken then might be worth trying a different registrar to register? Or you can try contacting customer support.

Not really, since two people have indicated that verbbooks.com is available, because they got the impression that was the specific name. This is why I had to clarify. Read the previous comments. A comment above and a PM made me clarify.

I contacted support. I got a response that was not clear enough and I responed requesting more information. I also tried other registrars and the name is not available. I will post an update and will reveal the exact name after a definitive response.

Thanks

UPDATE

I recently received the response to my last email to Godaddy support. They indicated that after the 43 days following expiration of a domain, it "may or may not be returned back to the registry" and that if it is returned to the registry, some time may pass before it is released for registration.

Godaddy mentions that "it is held for an undetermined amount of time before it will be released to the public and available for registration".

Notice the word undetermined...

Have you actually tried to register the domain?

Actually, if it's a GoDaddy registered domain, they delete it from their database on Day 42 after expiry. It then goes into a 30 Day Registry expiry, and gets deleted on the 6th day after that, on Day 78 after expiry.
