Where is the money is tutorial writing or hosting tutorials for free? Can they profit just from ads? I was planning on setting up a tutorial site in my space time and was wondering if there would be any possible way of paying off my hosting fee with it?? :)

Thanks,

Mutasim

I'm not sure I understand your question, but if you're thinking of charging for tutorials..just don't. Nobody will buy them most likely.

I wasn't suggesting that - I know that no-one will buy tutorials. I was wondering where the revenue is generated from.

i bet you could

I think you could definitely generate enough to pay the hosting fee if the site gets enough visitors.

thats not always the truth... There are hundreds of companies charging for tutorials that can be found on the other sites for free. THey charge because they are more indepth, have support and are are more professional..

Im not ripping up your post, in the samesences are your answer, i dont believe that there will as high of a sucess rate as you would with the ads.

not only in the ads but also for some sort of premium membership for those who will avail it for free sort of what paid forums are doing right now.

and another sponsorshp from education insitutions but difficult to get nowadays. but this is a long term goal not easily get if it will be just months old.

yes i agree. premium membership is the key for money. you can have some tutorials for everybody, and for some higher level tutorials you can charge. the key is low level tutorial have to be god enougth to make people to sign for membership.

I agree having a paid membership to access the higher level tutorials and a free access to all for basic tutorials will be a good idea. If the higher level tutorial are unique, informative and indepth there's no reason why people won't pay for it.

Ata basic level, build a fanbase for your quality tutorials, offer some kind of interaction, get listed in tutorial indexes and the world will be happy.

Keep it simple

You are just starting and have a little spare time:

(1) Generate pay-per-click revenue with adsense adsense.google.com
(2) Generate affiliate sales with CommissionJunciton cj.com

Use this as a starting point and branch out later... These two are the industry leaders and the easiest to work with in my opinion...

Goodluck
