I was wondering when i get spammed by people regarding a new name i have registered ……where are they getting the info, it's something i never looked into before but i am guessing a few other people may be interested to know as well. Is it straight from the registrar or perhaps verisign? or perhaps a domain tool service?
~
Thanks in advance

In the past few months I have been hit harder then ever with this new bunch of spammers.

Even if you have yourself removed from one, as soon as you reg a new domain they come back again like cockroaches in the night.

Everybody can get the .com zone file, then figure out which domains were added and which ones were removed by comparing against the previous day's copy for example.

The next step (and the most difficult) is to scrape whois information for each domain, in order to send the spam.

Your link is closer to what i am wondering thanks, i wonder if enough complaints are made are the spammers then denied access to the files ?

It would be a violation of the terms that they signed. It would be too hard to prove - I doubt they use the same servers to access the file that they use to send spam.

There are also sites that have done the work and make the data available post exercise - I imagine that's against the terms too but I haven't read them and don't plan on downloading the data or spamming anyone :)

Those cockroaches even call me offering hosting and web design services, email is bad enough but telemarketing is even horrible.
