When to get .info .net variations

I posted a question about being a small business owner. Thanks to everyone who replied.

My question is when to get the .net and .info variants on a domain that is about to expire. The .net and .info variants are not registered right now.

If I snag these up before the domain expires will I just draw attention to the .com domain? On the other hand, if I wait until after the auction someone else might snag it before I do.

I don't think this will happen. I would wait until I get the com. I would also ignore the .info and get only the .net

Don't register the other extensions now. This will seriously risk you getting the com.

Is it worth to buy a 4 digit .info if google has 1.890.000 direct hits?

Some people do not worry about getting any of the lower extensions if they can get the .com Now if you were ok with developing the .net if you did not get the .com then by all means I would snatch it up.

What I mean here is if you were a developer and planned on developing just a hand full of sites it might be feasible for you to lock down .net / .org when available.

On the other hand if you were a big developer who develops hundreds of names, then you might be happy just getting a .com or .net for a certain domain and leave the rest open for other people. As trying to lock down a bunch of extensions can get costly fast.
