Well I've noticed here lately and if you look at the current trend in Top Domains...all that is getting listed are 3-4L domains. Now I was under the understanding that those type of domains go under liquid domains section. I find it very offputting that now the Top Domain section is nothing more than a 3-4L section. I really think the Top Domain section should be reserved for what people know is truly a great domain name...otherwise it loses it's meaning and appeal.

Just my 2 cents and an observation from a long time member.

Hello,

To start off, here are a couple guides to shed some more light on the Top Domains Section:

Why a domain may not have been selected:
https://www.namepros.com/threads/the-selection-process-for-top-domains.1047414/

Why a specific domain may have been selected in the past:
https://www.namepros.com/threads/why-is-this-domain-name-in-top-domains.1044806/

Members submit domains for consideration to be included in the top domains section here:
https://www.namepros.com/link-forums/add-your-top-domains.407/

If the only domains being submitted for consideration are three-letter or four-letter .com's then that's all there will be when considering any of them in the selection process.

It should be noted, that there are not just three-letter and four-letter .com's in the top domain section. A quick review just now shows a bunch of single-word domains as well and not just in .com (.net, .org, etc.).

For instance:
ReBox = com
Rotting = com
Disposables = com
Troops = com
Paw = us
Honorary = com
Gardens = net
Sweepstakes = org
Sweets = net

And that's just looking at the first page.

Are you suggesting that staff members should go looking through the other marketplace sections to identify domains that could be selected and move them to top domains? Not sure that's a very good use of staff's time, when there's already a submission option for review.

Keep in mind, the domains in that section are dependent on members submissions, so if there are more three-letter and four-letter domains than longer single-words (Regardless of extension) it's due to what members are submitting and staff has no control over what people decide to submit.

You can get an idea about the types of domains that are submitted daily and not selected here:

true but it's nice pronouncable 4l there usually.

but I think I too would prefer it be restricted too only:

.com
solid 1word dictionary only

everything else can go elsewhere

It's helpful to sort Top Domains by new listings instead of recent activity. Otherwise, you'll see what investors are most interested in (liquid domains) instead of what is being approved most recently.

With the link above, we see the following listings recently approved:
  • Disposables.com
  • rebox.com
  • Creepy.com
  • Bewildered.com
  • C.at
  • Siblings.com
  • Shrew.com
  • Stages.com
  • Prominently.com
  • Mines.net
  • Defect.com
  • Laser.net
  • Provo.com
  • Fascination.com
  • Etc.
All on the first page.

I find it a little funny that Namepros even has a top-level domain section anymore. When I joined back in the late 2000s it made a little more sense, but who in here these days is going to spend upper five-figures on a domain name? The users here aren't even a third of what there used to be.

Not even 33%? That's not true. More than 50% of our all-time peaks are logged in every day.

There are less users than our all-time peaks (e.g., Chinese Premiums aka CHIPs era and new gTLD launch era) because a lot of those users didn't find success in domain investing, unfortunately, but that's why we're focusing on building additional tools that help domainers find success, such as our landers.

NamePros, along with DomainSherpa, Domain Academy, and other services out there designed to educate domain investors, are trying to help more people will find success and stay in the industry.

Share your knowledge because a rising tide lifts all boats! 😊

It's hard to know the value if no one buys it

Who pissed in your cereal? Drop the attitude and things would go smoother. Your assumptions are just that.

I apologize if our reply came off feeling like that. I assure you, that was not our intention. I'll try to be more mindful how things are worded moving forward.

We were simply trying to cover all bases in order to help explain how that section works in relation to how you felt it was only 3 and 4-letter domains there.

The queue is truly limited to what members submit. To be fair, there are a lot of single-words and various other extensions (other than .com) that have been selected for inclusion in the top domains section.

We do appreciate your feedback and hope to find ways to better that section.

Do you have some suggestions to make it even better?
