Ironically, I got WhatsMyRate.com and a slew of other "WhatsMy" names around the time I bought WhatsMyName.com intending to develop on it. Since then, I sold GuessMyJob.com for $600 and WhatsMyJob.com for $995, and had low-ball offers on WhatsMyRate.com previously, but now it has a 1,000 Eur "final offer" on it on Sedo, and I'm unsure of whether it should really be sold for that.

On the surface, the name was originally an afterthought to WhatsMyName.com, but I've come to realize that "rate" can relate to several different things, like any kind of insurance rate or loan rate. Phrase domains as a whole are getting increasingly popular because it's easier for people to remember a phrase they would say instead of some pronounceable made-up word (not to knock those at all as some of the biggest sites on the net use them). On more and more TV commercials, either slogans or other phrases are the domain utilized instead of the company.

The one that sticks out most in my mind is Taco Bell's ThinkOutsideTheBun.com...a really long name for sure, but since people already have the curiosity and intuition to go to TacoBell.com if they wanted to visit Taco Bell's website, why not hook more people in with a catchy phrase domain? I think a lot of companies are realizing the benefit in that, so considering WhatsMyRate.com targets deep pockets in lenders and insurance companies, I'm thinking 1,000 Eur might not be enough. Any thoughts on this?

I agree, the domain name itself is just generic enough to be useful in many ways. Even better yet, you're proposing a question through your domain "Whats my rate?" it's something someone would actually ask, giving this domain another uplift (:imho:) i'd hold out and see what else there might be coming your way, unless you need the cash.

1,000.00 EUR Euro = 1,301.91 USD United States Dollars
1 EUR = 1.30191 USD = 1 USD = 0.768100 EUR
(today's exchange rate calculated at XE.com )

Of course, t'is just my opinion, and $1300 is an amount that can me think, especially if its a domain that i'm not really using for anything and the PPC revenue is not exceeding the $1300 within 24 mths.

:imho:

I decided to start a Sedo auction with the offer and mention the .net (which I have) and WhatsMyRating.com, which I also have. I figure even if the auction doesn't bid up, those interested in it including the buyer will at least be upsold on other similar names. Ultimately, $1300 is nothing to sneeze at for a name I bought without the intention to sell.

Good point. I have seen many companies do this. It's catchy and also there are fewer available short domains. I can't help you specifically with your question but I too would hold it.

Interestingly enough, I thought for a second and realized "With insurance, people probably wouldn't ask 'What's my rate?' but instead 'What's my quote?'", and sure enough, WhatsMyQuote.com was available. WAS available...*snag* :) Too bad I can't edit the auction now that it's started.
