Ironically, I got WhatsMyRate.com and a slew of other "WhatsMy" names around the time I bought WhatsMyName.com intending to develop on it. Since then, I sold GuessMyJob.com for $600 and WhatsMyJob.com for $995, and had low-ball offers on WhatsMyRate.com previously, but now it has a 1,000 Eur "final offer" on it on Sedo, and I'm unsure of whether it should really be sold for that.
On the surface, the name was originally an afterthought to WhatsMyName.com, but I've come to realize that "rate" can relate to several different things, like any kind of insurance rate or loan rate. Phrase domains as a whole are getting increasingly popular because it's easier for people to remember a phrase they would say instead of some pronounceable made-up word (not to knock those at all as some of the biggest sites on the net use them). On more and more TV commercials, either slogans or other phrases are the domain utilized instead of the company.
The one that sticks out most in my mind is Taco Bell's ThinkOutsideTheBun.com...a really long name for sure, but since people already have the curiosity and intuition to go to TacoBell.com if they wanted to visit Taco Bell's website, why not hook more people in with a catchy phrase domain? I think a lot of companies are realizing the benefit in that, so considering WhatsMyRate.com targets deep pockets in lenders and insurance companies, I'm thinking 1,000 Eur might not be enough. Any thoughts on this?
