I have been a long-time member of NP and just recently started posting WTB threads again after sometime being away. One thing I have noticed with a lot of PM's is that many sellers don't understand what it means when you are not interested OR don't send items within your budget.

This is unproductive and wastes everyone's time! Please be respectful and do your due diligence prior to messaging a potential buyer.

Also, if someone doesn't respond to your inquiry don't take it personal. We get a ton of messages and most of the time it isn't worth messaging each and every individual back, especially if they don't have anything we are interested in or ask us direct questions.

Another tip: GET STRAIGHT TO THE POINT. No one likes going back and forth when the cards are on the table. It is what it is. Either you make an offer or counteroffer or say no thank you and move on.

Just had to post this so newbies don't make these same mistakes.

The only thing I have to add is.......

It's takes less than 60 seconds to write back and say "Thanks, but I'll pass."

Not writing someone back is extremely rude imho. It literally takes seconds to say no thanks.

I'd agree with this to a point.

I've run a wanted thread here or there and you do tend to get a lot of people who didn't bother to read the post. They see "wanted" and just blind PM you. These types of people do not warrant replies.

People who actually took the time to read the post and are at least close to what you asked for should get a thanks response. After all, you asked for something and they tried to meet your needs.

Take your own advice and don't take it personally ;) Spammers gonna spam.. You can't do anything about that. You can report each such PM to the mods or just ignore them and do business with the ones that are worth your time ;)

I think not replying someone that meets your rules and criteria is even more rude; Respect is reciprocal pros.

Good business is a prompt reply, either way. Plus doing the trade rating!

For someone new like me, the feedback - even just a no thanks - is extremely valuable.

I totally agree with that. Unfortunately, the internet often lacks signs of emotion and things can easily be interpreted as negative while they are definitely not meant like that. Of course, being human it usually doesn't feel nice being ignored but you just need to remember it's a business and yes, time is still money.

Also, this is a global business. You come in contact with different cultures and that alone can be hamper some.

I tend to not reply to those who didn't read my WTB threads and send me unrelated offers or price their domains higher than my budget specified. If I don't reply back to 50-100 messages, I am not being mean, I am just busy and don't think copy/pasting a "No thank you" message is productive, although I do try my best.

I agree.
When someone pm's and did not bother to read the conditions of the domain(s) wanted, they do not warrant a reply.
I want a .com and some pm with .net, .whatevers...
They are not a different culture or whatever.
They just do not read the conditions.
Not worth replying.

Is 50-100 messages typical for domains you list? I find that surprising but to be honest I couldn't blame you for not replying if you're not interested. Nobody has time for that.

Everything in life is a "law of averages" thing, some folk will and some folk wont. But they can learn if they try just a little

Agreed, I respond to every PM, every time. Saying you don't have time is lazy and rude.

So do the ones that respond to every pm also respond to every email they receive?
