Hello. I'd like to know what is the longest period of time that you hold a domain name without getting any offers, and then you sold it finally.

did the deal worth it!

Definitely!!!

I work in the marine industry so I knew it was a good name, but also knew the value of patience!!!

how does age affect the value of the domain, i mean why do old domains sell better than new ones even if they were held undeveloped

I guess everyone would have some in their portfolio that are sitting there from years.

I have some domains that are there from last 9 years or so.

OMG NOW I AM UPSET!!!! Ok so can I ask a question too?? I bet you hold on those you are aware I mean totally aware they are good otherwise the renewals would kill your wallet...am I wrong?

Because I will have to renew some of mine and I am already thinking about dropping half of them and focus only on brandable / catchy domains which are the present and the future of domaining IMO

This depends on lots of factors.

First of all if I am going to reg/buy a domain name then I would be mentally prepared to see it through the end. If I am prepared to do that then only I would bet my money on it.

Second. This one is not particularly related to domaining alone but it is about development and monetization. If I have a lousy domain name and that makes enough to pay its own renewals then I would not let it go. That is the 1st requirement that needs to be satisfied for all my domains. If some of them don't make enough or even make zero. I don't drop them at once. Most pessimistically even If it can make 100 USD in its 4th year then it is worth the shot for me.

Same thing can be applied to parking revenue too. But finding good domains for parking nowadays is quite tough.

This are just my ideas. I know different people have different approaches. :)

I take you don't work with brandables then as 90% of them doesn't make a dime in parked revenues..

Infact I do have lots of 4 letters and all.

I have never ever dropped a single domain name yet in last 9 years.

I would try to sell it.
I would let it sit in parking making me 2 dollar a year :D until I come up with some plan.
I would develop it and monetize it.
I would develop it and build some traffic and sell it as a website.
I would use them to showcase some of the scripts I make etc.

Thanks.

GREAT! Introduce me to your registrar if it lets you renew your domains for 2$ because GoDaddy doesn't!!!!!! :D:D

Not saying that I renew it at $2.

I am saying

"I would let it sit in parking making me 2 dollar a year :D until I come up with some plan."

I renew it even if it earns $2 per year. "Until I come up with some plan for it" Which means it is a loss of 6 or 7 dollars on it.

And I count the average overall earning of the bunch of domains. I try to push the ones that don't perform etc. So yes there are and there will be bad ones making losses in portfolio.

Infact 99 out of 100 domainers will have domains that makes losses on renewals but they do hold onto it. Maybe they have some plan or they are optimistic about something related to it.
