Say for instance, you decide to go to Moniker or Godaddy and search for some names that come to you or are autosuggested by the registrars. What's the first thing that comes to mind when a domain is available?

For me, first it is a few milliseconds of surprise and then I rethink, "Hmm, nobody registered this? Is it a bad domain?"

I may give it a second thought and either reg or not reg. But if I personally like the name regardless of values or popularity I just register it.

What about you?

If I find a name has not been registered, my first thought is "Why hasn't it been registered? Is it because the name is worthless?"

usually for me the development niche/category is already there and then i see the need to reg, if they're not regged at all i think it's best left unregged but for development purpose (and client's request) i go on and reg it.

I have saved my self hundreds maybe thousands of dollars because i second guess myself with hand regs. You have to pick the CREAM of the CROP when it comes to hand regging.

Though my first domain ever was through one of those auto creator domain things, i regged it because i thought it was funny. It tripped me out every time i thought of it, come to think of it, it still makes me laugh. LOL

"What can be done with the name? Will parking reel in enough revenue? Possible end-users? Development potential?"

Find the cheapest registrar.

If it was a geo type name I would probably enter the keyword, country, city etc into Google or Wiki and find out more about the subject and then decide if it is worth registering.

First thing that comes to my mind:
Why is this domain still available?
I do some research, and I find out that the domain has great potential.

This is how my face looks:
$$$$$$$$$$_$$$$$$$$$$

After a few months with no sales

$$$_$$$

A few months left till expiry date

$_$

A few weeks before expiry

np$_np$

"It's too good to be true"
"Do I really feel like developing this?"
"But it's only $7..."
"I'll give myself five days to think about it, before refund time is up"

It is just a few dollars anyways....? lol

Here's my thought process:

1) why is this domain still available?
2) Who is the possible buyer for this domain?
3) If I try justify the purchase with "development plans" how likely will it get developed?
4) Is this niche unique of oversaturated
5) will this domain make it's renewal fee?
6) Why the hell are ed hardy shirts so popular?
7) Is there a better alternative to this domain?
8) When is Entourage's new season starting?
9) I should see what renewals I have due at the same time.
10) I wonder if there is any ice cream in the fridge?

By this time I typically pass on the reg, put it on a list & check back in a few days if I feel the same way, I reg it.
